Facilities Mechanical Engineer II 

The Facilities Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for providing a full range of advanced professional planning, design/engineering, and project management services for The Jackson Laboratory's capital projects and smaller projects. The Facilities Mechanical Engineer II is accountable for providing mechanical engineering expertise to the Facilities Maintenance and Facilities Engineering teams and for ensuring the successful execution of projects within established scopes, schedules, financial limits, and communication goals. 

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions 

  • Utilize expertise in facilities mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and other critical mechanical infrastructure within laboratory and/or vivaria facilities, to inform project design and construction. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement effective solutions tailored to the mechanical requirements of The Jackson Laboratory. 

  • Work closely with clients/stakeholders to establish precise project scopes, schedules, and budget constraints. 

  • Act as the Project Manager to lead the planning, design, construction, occupancy and warranty period for projects ranging from small-scale $20K budgets to complex and expansive projects up to $100M, through effective communication, leadership and technical skills. 

  • Provide technical mechanical engineering design, equipment selection and calculation support and guidance to other Project Managers and Facilities Operations and Maintenance teams during various project phases. 

  • Conduct in-depth planning and feasibility studies for potential projects, offering valuable insights and strategic recommendations. 

  • Develop and maintain mechanical system design standards for all Jackson Laboratory locations to ensure consistent and high-quality project outcomes. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field. 

  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering required and 5+ years in project management preferred. 

  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in the primary state of practice or the ability to obtain such licensure is required. 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills facilitating effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders. 

  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple projects in a dynamic and high-pressure environment. 

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and MS Project required. 

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit, Trimble, or similar software applications preferred. 

  • Solid understanding of local, state and federal laws, codes and regulations for facilities work is required and must be incorporated into each project. This includes IBC, NFPA, and OSHA. 

Pay Range: $92,192.00 - $133,678.00
