Job description

Position: Fabrication Lead

We are looking for a highly skilled professional to join our Production team as a Fabrication Lead who can work in flexible shifts. The successful candidate will have following responsibilities as an individual contributor

Your responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise all fabrication activities during the assigned shift to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Execute the daily production plan and achieve production targets while meeting Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) objectives.
  • Allocate manpower, monitor attendance, and optimize workforce utilization to maximize productivity.
  • Ensure fabrication activities are carried out as per engineering drawings, work instructions, welding procedures, and quality standards.
  • Monitor fit-up, welding, grinding, assembly, and inspection activities to ensure compliance with customer and company requirements.
  • Coordinate with Planning, Stores, Machine Shop, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to ensure smooth production flow.
  • Identify production bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to improve throughput and reduce cycle time.
  • Ensure timely availability of materials, tools, fixtures, welding consumables, and equipment for uninterrupted production.
  • Monitor machine utilization and coordinate preventive and breakdown maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Enforce compliance with EHS regulations, conduct toolbox talks, and promote a strong safety culture on the shop floor.
  • Review production progress, maintain shift reports, and communicate issues and action plans during shift handovers.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives through Lean manufacturing, 5S, waste reduction, productivity enhancement, and process standardization.
  • Reduce rework and rejection by ensuring adherence to quality standards and root cause analysis for recurring issues.
  • Train, mentor, and develop operators and welders to improve technical skills, productivity, and discipline.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping, material traceability, and compliance with company policies and statutory requirements.
  • Support new product development, process improvements, and implementation of new fixtures, tooling, and manufacturing methods to enhance operational efficiency.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, including fit-up, cutting, grinding, assembly, and heavy structural fabrication.
  • Proficiency in welding processes such as SMAW, GMAW (MIG/MAG), GTAW (TIG), FCAW, and SAW.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, GD&T, welding symbols, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Knowledge of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Records (WQR).
  • Familiarity with welding quality standards, visual inspection techniques, and dimensional inspection methods.
  • Experience with fabrication fixtures, jigs, welding manipulators, positioners, and material handling equipment.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Experience in Heavy industrial equipment manufacturing OEM is preferable.
  • Strategic thinking on risk management.
  • Good communication skills both written & spoken to deal with global and internal cross functional team based in India and overseas.
  • A team player with matrix organization experience.
