Job Summary

The Extended Care Aide supports the daily operations of Sacred Heart Catholic School's Extended Care Program by providing a safe, nurturing, and faith-filled environment for students before and/or after school hours. This position is responsible for supervising students, supporting homework completion, facilitating age-appropriate activities, and promoting positive social interactions. The Extended Care Aide works collaboratively with school staff to ensure the well-being of students while supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students enrolled in the Extended Care Program and ensure their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and welcoming environment that supports student development.
  • Assist with planning and implementing educational, recreational, and enrichment activities.
  • Support students with homework and study habits as appropriate.
  • Monitor and manage student behavior in accordance with school policies and expectations.
  • Assist with student check-in, attendance tracking, and dismissal procedures.
  • Ensure accurate sign-in and sign-out records are maintained.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, faculty, and staff regarding student needs and program activities.
  • Prepare, distribute, and clean up snacks and activity materials as assigned.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of program spaces.
  • Respond appropriately to student injuries, behavioral concerns, emergencies, and other incidents.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school information.
  • Support and uphold the mission, values, and teachings of Sacred Heart Catholic School and the Catholic Church.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience working with children in a school, childcare, camp, recreation, or extended care setting preferred.
  • Ability to supervise and engage groups of children in a safe and positive manner.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Dependable, patient, flexible, and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, bending, and lifting materials and supplies.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • Successful completion of required background checks, Safe Environment training, and any Archdiocesan requirements.
