Louisiana’s highway safety program is designed to reduce traffic crashes and the resulting deaths, injuries, and property damage.</p>The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC) is seeking an Executive Staff Officer to join our team--an initiative-taking, forward-thinking team that moves our mission forward using focus and collaboration. This position will serve the LHSC as the Executive Staff Officer and serve as the primary confidential assistant to the LHSC Executive Director which will include coordinating the Executive Director’s schedule with consideration for critical timelines, preparing briefings and presentations for the Executive Director on traffic safety issues, and coordinating the Director’s activities with the Governor’s appointed Highway Safety Commission, the LHSC staff, and other traffic safety stakeholders including the Louisiana Legislature. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.</span></div><div>The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found <a href="https://apps01.civilservice.louisiana.gov/onestopjobinfo/DisplayJobSpec.aspx?JobCode=119760" target="_blank"><u>here</u></a>.</div><p style="margin: 5pt 0 10pt"><u><strong>Job Duties:</strong></u></p><p style="margin: 5pt 0 10pt">As the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission’s (LHSC) Executive Staff Officer, you will report directly to the Executive Director and serve as their primary confidential assistant. The LHSC serves as the State’s Highway Safety Office and is responsible for making application, receiving, and administering federal grant funds and coordinating behavioral traffic safety programs and strategies to reduce the deaths and injuries on Louisiana’s roadways.</p><div style="margin: 5pt 0 10pt"><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li style="margin: 5pt 0 10pt">Manages and coordinates the Executive Director’s schedule with consideration for critical timelines.</li><li style="margin: 5pt 0 10pt">Relieves the Executive Director of a variety of administrative matters in assigned areas related to highway safety and legislative matters.</li><li style="margin: 5pt 0 10pt">Prepares briefings and presentations for the Executive Director on highway safety and legislative issues and participates in planning, policy and legislative meetings.</li><li style="margin: 5pt 0 10pt">Assists with planning of Commission meetings and related follow-up reporting requirements.</li><li style="margin: 5pt 0 10pt">Assists the Executive Director and Deputy Director in activities involving compliance with federal and state regulations and supervises the activities of the LHSC office manager. </li><li style="margin: 5pt 0 10pt">Composes and transmits directives or assignments to LHSC staff on behalf of the Executive Director. Composes and types correspondence involving routine and non-routine matters. Disseminates requested information to the public.</li><li style="margin: 5pt 0 10pt">Conducts programmatic studies and assignments related to improving highway safety and programmatic delivery.
