JOB DESCRIPTION:

Greater China ECO

Primary Responsibility

This role leads the Ethics and Compliance function for area, directs & supervises work on highly complex compliance issues and ensures that all relevant aspects of highly complex compliance matters in geographic area are examined with required diligence. Additionally, this role ensures that appropriate stakeholders are informed of material developments in geographic areas and given reasonable opportunity to share perspective. This role advises Corporate Officer & Chief Compliance Officer & business management on critical projects within the region in a timely manner and provides advice and counsel to the Division Vice Presidents, Area or Regional Heads and GMs. The incumbent within this role needs to be highly skilled in interpersonal skills; communicating, influencing and leadership to provide guidance & leadership to sr. executives and leading cross functional teams. Additionally, they are recognized by these clients as both expert in substantive area and relied upon for individual advice.

Principle Challenges

Faces complex issues that differ from those typically faced within the industry.  A key purpose of the position is to come up with new solutions to highly complex issues. The ECO acts as the strategic business advisor regarding compliances issues or challenges. They need to be deeply embedded within the business to understand internal factors and knowledgeable about the external factors (changing laws, practices, issues facing industry & competitors) when analyzing risk for the businesses and be able to act as a business advisor, in addition to balancing business goals and risk. They are there to help the business meet their goals but in a compliant manner, therefore, it's important for them to understand the complexities of all of the businesses within their region, which often is multiple countries and municipalities.

Leading change in complex and ambiguous environment – Frequent changes in regulatory policies and government interventions, along with internal restructuring and shifts in direction, lead to a high level of ambiguity and complexity. The ECO needs to provide clear direction to the organization, ensure that efforts across the organization are fully aligned, and inspire staff to strive toward strategic objectives. 
Cultural diversity – Operating across different cultures with people from diverse backgrounds, both internal and external, requires high level of cross-cultural agility.
