Job Summary:

Works face-to-face with patients in the in-person clinics to accurately identify malfunctions, alerts, and sub-optimal device operations along with following the appropriate protocols with programming changes and notifying physicians of those changes.
Performs device interrogation and monitoring of cardiac devices utilizing and processing patient and device data in EPIC EMR, PACEART, and Vendor specific Websites. Reviews device information for alerts. Creates, reviews, and sends reports in Paceart EMR. Receives inbound phone calls from healthcare professionals or patients and utilizes knowledge and necessary systems to determine needs and next steps.
Provides Clinical assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation: Follows clinical medical assessment process in evaluating symptomatic patients and providing documented summary to include pertinent patient information to assist the reading physician in clinical decision making.

Works independently in person clinics to accurately identify malfunctions, alerts, and sub-optimal device operations and follows appropriate protocols with making programming changes and notifying physicians.

Education & Experience

High school diploma/GED and completion of a formal medical assistant or equivalent training program, such as but not limited to: certified medical assistant, emergency medical technician, licensed practical nurse or registered nurse and five years of related experience. Cardiac rhythm interpretation analysis and patient education experience preferred.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: BLS (basic life support) certification required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and cardiac rhythms to perform related cardiac device monitoring interpretation. Advanced knowledge of modes of pacing, ICD arrhythmia detection parameters and therapy options. Advanced ECG rhythm interpretation, ability to verbalize and demonstrate knowledge of pacemaker and defibrillator systems, system analysis and measurement, programming and troubleshooting principles.
 

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation: Follows clinical medical assessment process in evaluating symptomatic patients and providing follow-through as needed such as discussing with physicians, giving instructions to patients, making follow-up appointments, arranging emergent treatment. 
  • Works with the cardiologists and extended staff to interrogate and interpret devices and patient device education. Assists in providing in clinic device care and education to patients requiring a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac rhythm devices.
  • Works independently in clinics to accurately identify malfunctions, alerts, and sub-optimal device operations and follows appropriate protocols with making programming changes and notifying physicians. 
  • Accurately interpret and document clinical history and summarize assessment of the patient symptoms and device event correlation. Data will be summarized and reported to include pertinent patient information to assist the reading physician in clinical decision making. 
  • Collaborate with physicians regarding device status and accurately document device analysis in EMR for review.
  • Utilize established protocols and notification guidelines to recognize cardiac rhythm abnormalities/symptoms and clearly communicate with Providers. Identify cardiac arrhythmias, determine proper device function and report pertinent information to the reading physician
  • Performs in person device interrogations per physician orders using established protocols in making programming changes during clinic visits. Assists in providing in clinic device care and education to patients requiring a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac rhythm devices.
  • Review / Analyze encounters for remote appointments and assign charge code to associated encounter.  Ensure charges are accurately captured for device interrogation.
