Northrop Grumman Aeronautic Systems is seeking a Structural Analysis Engineer or Principal Structural Analysis Engineer to join our diverse team in El Segundo, CA. This position is for the 1st shift with a 9/80 work schedule.

The primary role involves conducting structural modification stress analysis in a fast-paced environment.

We are looking for an engineer who can analyze, research, and develop structural engineering specifications for metals, non-metallic materials, and composite structures. Responsibilities include analyzing metallic and composite airframe structures, as well as performing analysis using tools such as PATRAN or FEMAP and other software applications.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform stress analysis for primary and secondary structures.

  • Review completed analyses, drawings, and repairs for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.

  • Collaborate effectively with other disciplines during the design development process.

  • Present and explain structural issues and solutions clearly to internal management and customers.

  • Maintain and improve part designs, equipment, and systems to support post-production deliveries.

  • Develop comprehensive and practical solutions to complex problems that align with program objectives.

  • Evaluate as-built products for compliance with standards, procedures, and specifications.

  • Utilize structural analysis methods and documentation, including hand-sheet analysis and manipulation of large Finite Element Models.

Position may be filled as either an Engineer (Level 2) OR Principal Engineer (Level 3) depending on the qualifications below.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Engineer Structural: A bachelor’s degree in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil) with a minimum of 2 years of experience in aerospace structural analysis, or a master’s degree in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil) with no experience required.

  • Principal Engineer Structural: A bachelor’s degree in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil) with a minimum of 5 years of experience in aerospace structural analysis; a master’s degree in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil) with a minimum of 3 years of experience; or a PhD with no prior experience required.

  • Experience in bonded composite structural analysis of primary and secondary aircraft structures.

  • Experience in metallic structural analysis of primary and secondary aircraft structures.

  • Proficiency in structural analysis methods and documentation, including hand-sheet analysis and large Finite Element Model manipulation.

  • Familiarity with PATRAN or FEMAP.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret clearance; clearance not required to start employment.

  • Must have the ability to obtain any Program Special access required within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on military aircraft.

  • Knowledge of MIL-STD regulations as they pertain to aerospace structures.

Primary Level Salary Range: $91,800.00 - $137,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
