Business Overview

Rakuten's AI & Data Division develops and provides service platforms powered by AI and data, and drives data consulting services that help business units leverage AI and data at scale. The Division is responsible for defining and executing Rakuten Group's mid-to-long-term AI & Data strategy.

 

Department Overview

AI & Data Division General Management Office (AIGMO) is a cross-functional team of approximately 25 members based in Japan and India. We handle Division-wide strategy planning and operations across diverse areas including services, budget management, events, HR, and internal communications—acting as the central nerve of the Division.

Position Details

We are looking for an Culture & Engagement Lead who will own and drive Division-wide events, internal engagement initiatives, and cultural programs that connect our global teams and inspire a sense of belonging and shared purpose.

This is a mid-level, highly autonomous role. You will be expected to take initiative, lead projects end-to-end with minimal supervision, and serve as a key driver of the Division's internal culture and community.

Key responsibilities
1) Event Planning & Execution

- Plan, coordinate, and execute Division-wide events including town halls, off-sites, team-building activities, internal conferences, and milestone celebrations

- Manage event logistics from budget planning to on-site facilitation and post-event wrap-up

- Own the Division's annual event calendar and ensure alignment with business cycles and priorities

2) Facilitation & Communication

- Design and facilitate workshops, all-hands meetings, retrospectives, and cross-team sessions

- Develop facilitation materials, agendas, and post-session summaries to drive alignment and action

- Act as a communication bridge between leadership and the broader Division

3) Internal Engagement & Culture

- Design and implement engagement programs that foster a sense of community across a geographically distributed team

- Collect and analyze engagement metrics (e.g., pulse surveys, participation rates) and use insights to improve programs

- Partner with HR, leadership, and team leads to identify engagement needs and design targeted initiatives

- Champion DEI and cross-cultural understanding across the Division

4) Program Management

- Manage multiple concurrent projects with accountability for timelines, budgets, and stakeholder communication

- Report program status and outcomes to senior management and Division leadership

AI & Data Division General Management Office is a team of approximately 25 members, based across Japan and India

 

Mandatory Qualifications:

- 3-5 years of experience in employee engagement, internal events, corporate communications, or a related field

- Proven track record of planning and executing large-scale internal events with end-to-end ownership

- Experience in facilitation of workshops and group sessions

- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable working with diverse, global teams

- Self-starter who can operate autonomously and drive results without heavy direction

- Business-level English/Japanese (reading, writing, and speaking)

 

Desired Qualifications:

- Experience working in a tech, AI, or data-driven organization

- Familiarity with tools such as Confluence, JIRA, TEAMS, Slack, or similar collaboration platforms

- Experience designing or measuring employee engagement programs

- Event management or facilitation certification (e.g., IAF, PMP, or equivalent)
