RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with leadership to advise on employee relations, performance management, and organizational effectiveness.
- Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, including conducting investigations and supporting grievance processes.
- Serve as a key liaison with union representatives, participating in negotiations and contract administration.
- Maintain and oversee leave management functions and accommodation requests.
- Develop and deliver training and guidance to leaders on best practices in employee and labor relations.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Equivalent work experience may be considered in place of a formal degree.
- Minimum of five years of experience in human resources or a related field, with exposure to labor relations.
- Experience with union environments, including collective bargaining and negotiations (preferred).
- Strong understanding of employment laws and ability to interpret legal and policy documents.
- High level of interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters.
- Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP) preferred.
- Physical Requirement: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, perform light physical activity, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
ENVIRONMENT
The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22-bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28-bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska.
This role operates primarily in a professional office setting, with occasional travel between locations, supporting a collaborative, mission-driven healthcare environment. The position requires regular interaction with leadership, employees, and union representatives, often involving sensitive or high-stakes discussions. Due to the nature of employee and labor relations work, this role may involve exposure to stressful situations, including conflict resolution, grievance hearings, and time-sensitive legal matters.
