About the role

The Tax Director builds and leads The Nuclear Company's tax function from the ground up, covering federal and state income tax, energy tax credits, and the transfer pricing and tax structuring implications of TNC's joint-venture and project-financing arrangements. This role serves as the company's primary tax advisor as it scales capital deployment across multiple construction sites. The ideal candidate is a hands-on builder who thrives in a startup environment and can stand up a high-performing tax function without existing infrastructure in place. 

Responsibilities

  • Federal, state, and local tax compliance and provision (ASC 740) 
  • Tax planning and structuring for joint ventures, partnerships, project financing, international 
  • Energy tax credit strategy (e.g., ITC/PTC and related nuclear/energy credits) 
  • Indirect tax oversight (sales/use, property tax) across multi-state construction sites 
  • Managing relationships with external tax advisors and auditors 
  • Advising leadership on the tax impact of major transactions 

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive corporate tax experience, including Big 4 or national firm plus industry 
  • Active CPA required 
  • Hands-on experience structuring tax for partnerships/joint ventures 
  • Experience with energy tax credits (ITC/PTC or similar) 
  • ASC 740 income tax provision experience 

Preferred Experience

  • Direct experience with nuclear or energy infrastructure tax credits 
  • M&A tax experience
  • Multi-state construction/property tax experience 
  • Prior experience building a tax function from scratch at an early-stage company

Estimated Starting Salary Range
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $178,000 - $204,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
