Director of Safety Summary

The Director of Safety is responsible for leading safety, risk management, claims oversight, and compliance efforts throughout Lone Star Transportation. This role serves as a key advocate for employee safety and operational excellence while helping ensure company safety programs, incident response, and risk management practices are executed with accuracy and confidentiality. The Director of Safety works closely with leadership to identify risk, guide safety strategy, support budgetary planning, and strengthen a proactive safety culture across the organization. This position also provides daily leadership to the Safety Department, supporting team performance, professional development, and continuous improvement.

Your Responsibilities

  • Safety Operations // Direct and coordinate company safety, claims, and risk management activities for Lone Star Transportation
  • Risk Communication // Consult with leadership to identify, evaluate, and communicate risks associated with incidents, accidents, and cargo claims
  • Program Strategy // Lead strategic planning and direction for company safety programs, safety functions, and risk management systems
  • Incident Reporting // Ensure accidents and incidents are reviewed, documented, and reported according to company policy
  • Training Oversight // Supervise safety-related activities for new hire orientation and ensure proper training and compliance
  • Department Leadership // Recruit, hire, train, direct, evaluate, and manage Safety Department staff in accordance with company policy
  • Professional Development // Stay current with developments in the safety profession and support professional growth opportunities for staff

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Risk Management.

  • Safety Experience // Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a safety position
  • Leadership Experience // Minimum of two (2) years of experience managing safety staff
  • Communication Skills // Demonstrated interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Pressure Management // Demonstrated ability to perform assigned duties under frequent time pressures in an interrupted environment
  • Analytical Skills // Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to solve complex problems

Preferred Qualifications

A master’s degree in Risk Management.

  • Safety Certifications // Ability to obtain and possess safety certification(s)
  • Transportation Experience // Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the transportation industry

Salary and Schedule

  • Salary // Pay will be competitive and commensurate with experience
  • Schedule // This position is located in Fort Worth, TX and is on-site. The working days are Monday–Friday, and the working hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
