Apply to this jobAbout Redwood Materials
Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling — keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2017, we’re delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.
The Director, Direct Procurement BESS will own Redwood's entire product supply chain, including global supply management, supplier industrialization engineering, supplier quality engineering, and material planning. This role sits at the interface between the product engineering team and the industries that supply our core technologies.
This is a build role. With roughly nine months of early groundwork already laid, the ideal candidate will build on that progress to stand up the supply chain for this new high-volume product line, develop close partnerships with key suppliers, and deliver quality parts on an expedited timeline. They will bring a strong background in supply chain management, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to operational excellence.
Responsibilities will include:
- Partner closely with engineering to understand and project supplier needs before they become blockers.
- Develop a nuanced understanding of the power electronics, wire harnessing, and mechanical supplier landscape to identify the best partners globally.
- Build a robust purchasing process end to end, from quotation to supplier qualification to sustained relationship development.
- Make clear trade-off decisions across cost, volume, quality, and speed as Redwood's business dynamics shift.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, vendors, and partners to ensure timely delivery of high-quality materials and components.
- Oversee inventory management, demand planning, and logistics to ensure product availability and minimize lead times.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address supply chain challenges and implement solutions.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to supply chain operations.
- Build, lead, and structure a high-performing supply chain team for products.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across supply chain efficiency, quality, and sustainability.
- Rapidly synthesize findings and communicate them clearly to senior leaders.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks to the business.
Desired Qualifications:
- Deep procurement and supply chain leadership experience, ideally scaling a new product line from prototype to high volume.
- Experience in supplier management and operations at manufacturing scale.
- Hands-on experience developing power electronics supply chains in Asia and North America.
- Experience building and managing supply chain teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to supply chain operations.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally and domestically.
- A degree in engineering, supply chain, or business, or equivalent practical experience.
The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
