Job description

SDI is a growing small business located in Alexandria, Virginia providing software development and technical services to federal agencies, government contractors, public sector agencies, and commercial organizations. Our activities support initiatives for Defense, First Responder safety/accountability, aerospace, custom applications, and web technologies. We have developed innovative software applications to support DoD and First Responder safety and accountability activities, including applications used daily by FDNY and other U.S. fire departments. SDI’s focus is always on meeting Customer requirements to ensure that their goals, deliverables, and deadlines are satisfied.

We are seeking a self-motivated DevOps engineer with demonstrated experience in modern web application architectures involving microservices and cloud platform orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Helm, and Rancher).

The position will involve software development, continuous integration/delivery, and testing of a web application designed to support DoD mission planning and National Security objectives.  The DevOps engineer must be comfortable with Java build processes and tools such as Gradle and Maven. The DevOps engineer must have knowledge in designing and implementing streamlined, cloud-friendly CI/CD pipelines to support a fast-paced delivery schedule.  The engineer will need skills to integrate commercial or open source tools to automate processes that improve QA capabilities.

This is an Agile development environment, working on state-of-the-art algorithms and technology for a DoD customer located in Washington, DC.  The developer would attend team meetings, work with engineering teams, documentation teams, and other developers to create solutions.

We anticipate a hybrid blend of on-site and remote work efforts. SDI personnel are currently able to work remotely from home with a limited amount of time spent at the Customer’s Washington, DC site.

Qualifications

  • US Citizenship required for consideration.  Must be able to obtain Secret clearance. An existing clearance is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and with little direct supervision or oversight.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • DevOps experience with Kubernetes (Rancher and/or OpenShift) and Helm.
  • Experience with automated build process tools (Jenkins).
  • Knowledge of Gradle and Maven.
  • Microservice migration experience.
  • Containerization (Docker, Spring Boot, etc.)
  • Agile development experience with Sprint and Retrospective experience in a team environment.
  • Experience with relational databases.
  • Multi-platform development environments.
  • Version control and Feature/Defect tracking experience with Atlassian Tools - JIRA, Confluence, Struts, etc.  All work is tracked and managed in the Atlassian tools.
  • A Bachelor's Degree, or higher, in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent, is required. 

Desired Qualifications

  • Full stack Java experience.
  • Experience with Spring, and Hibernate.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with the OpenAPI specification and tools.
  • Java EE application development (WildFly).
  • Security+ certification.
  • Data visualization technologies including mapping.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with various priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment.
