<u>Job Summary</u>:<br>Performs a variety of clerical tasks regarding tax payment collection, billing, recording of payment of property, maintenance of County records, and responding to information and service requests from taxpayers and other entities. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<u>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</u>:<br><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Serves as a liaison for Buchanan County Collectors Office</li><li>Assist the public at the front counter and by telephone; providing information regarding Collector functions and the process of paying taxes</li><li>Answers phone and routes calls accordingly&nbsp;</li><li>Prepares and mails forms and correspondence to customers</li><li>Assists in locating delinquent taxpayers, coordinating reports for delinquent and abated taxes, and forwarding reports to the appropriate taxing entity&nbsp;</li><li>Assists in the billing process of personal property and real estate taxes</li><li>Maintains detailed records of all transactions</li><li>Ability to secure and maintain qualifications for surety bond</li><li>Responds to requests for information from citizens, real estate agents, appraisers, etc.…</li></ul><u>Other Duties and Responsibilities</u>:<br><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Operate office equipment, including but not limited to: copy machine, computer, phone, 10-key</li><li>Be familiar with Excel &amp; Word</li><li>Determine correct address for returned mail</li><li>Perform all other duties as assigned</li></ul><br><u>Education/Experience</u>:<br>High School diploma required. &nbsp;<br>Education equivalent to graduation from a two-year college or university with a major in accounting, finance, or business administration preferred.&nbsp;<br><p><u>Employee Behavior and Conduct</u>:</p><p>County employees shall conduct themselves in a professional manner. Employees should respect their colleagues, and extend courtesy to those with whom they come in contact both internally and externally during the performance of their job duties. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p><u>Working Environment/Physical Requirements:</u></p><p>The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary. Must possess vision to read printed materials and computer screen and to correspond via email. Must possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Cognitive ability to understand and convey complex information is a must.&nbsp;</p><br><u>Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</u>:<br><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Ability to learn of the Collector’s Office derived through education, training and experience to deal with issues or researchable problems</li><li>Ability to learn of State statutes, regulations, and procedures&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to learn of the tax collecting process and the procedures and technical skills to receive, record, and report payments</li><li>Basic knowledge of accounting practices and computerized record keeping.</li><li>Ability to investigate and research specific problems and situations related to property tax collection</li><li>Understanding of the statutory requirements of the Collector’s Office and process</li><li>Ability to be responsible for the accuracy, timeliness, and thoroughness of own workability to perform work in accordance with legal, procedural, and policy guidelines</li><li>Ability to manage job-related stress and work at times under busy and hectic circumstances; to be able to multi-task, be flexible, and work with unexpected interruptions</li><li>Ability to exercise discretion, tact, and diplomacy at all times</li><li>Ability to operate a variety of office equipment; including but not limited to computer, telephone, fax machine, calculator, and copy machine</li><li>Commitment to protect the confidentiality of the citizens of the County</li><li>Able to work independently and as part of a team</li><li>Strong attention to detail and organization skills</li></ul>
