About the role: 

You are an experienced database specialist? Do you desire to work in a practical domain? Do you want to support scientists, researchers, students and more by making relevant data accessible to them?

The Reaxys team is searching for a self-driven and enthusiastic relational database specialist with a passion for performance optimization of databases hosting large amounts of data. The focus is on the database, schema, data structure optimization to provide an (almost) real-time experience to our customers, even for complex queries on continuously growing large datasets. You will be part of an agile development team supporting and continuously improving our chemical full text retrieval search to fulfil our customer’s needs. You will be able to contribute and expand your expertise and skills in a variety of career paths at Elsevier.

Education & Experience: 

·         Expert (5 years) PostgreSQL or Oracle database experience with a strong focus on database, schema, data structure, and query optimization.

·         A bachelor's degree (master's preferred) in computer science, or life sciences with a strong background in database performance optimization.

Your Responsibilities: 

·         Understand, design and maintain different data structures and the corresponding data, and constantly optimize and adapt the data structures and schemas to fulfil customer use cases.

·         Transform the data structure for different representations and implementations.

·         Optimize the database, e.g., indexes, the data structure, and queries, and implement extensions, stored procedures for fast result retrieval even for complex queries.

·         Be an active member of the agile team, contributing to ceremonies and team decision making.

·         Work closely with developers, product owners, and other stakeholders to ensure timely deliveries. 

You should bring: 

·         Expert level experience in PostgreSQL or Oracle database. Experience in both technologies is a plus.

·         Strong background in database optimization.

·         Minimum medium level scripting experience in Bash, Perl, or Python.

·         Fluent English oral and written communication skills. 

·         The ability and passion to work in a diverse team. 

·         Experience in AI supported development/working.

The following skills will be a bonus: 

·         Basic chemistry or life sciences knowledge.

·         Experience or training in AWS. 

·         Experience or training in C/C++.

·         Experience or training in Linux.

·         Knowledge of Jenkins, JIRA, and Confluence. 

 

 



Primary Location Base Pay Range: Germany - Frankfurt (Baseler Platz) €62,200 - €103,500.
