Data Scientist

The Data Scientist is ultimately responsible for using data science and data analysis to support MAGMUTUAL and its policyholders in evaluating, mitigating and managing risk by:



Analyzing internal and external data
Creating dashboards and reports
Implementing data science techniques

As this relates to analyzing internal and external data:

• Clearly define the question(s) the analysis is trying to answer
• Define internal and external data sources needed
• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the data inputs
• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the data outputs

As this relates to creating dashboards and reports:

• Clearly define and document the purpose of the report/dashboard
• Define the requirements, including necessary data elements
• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the data inputs
• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the data outputs
• Determine the best platform for delivery
• Ensure the usability of final work product from an end-user perspective

As this relates to implementing data science techniques:

• Identify opportunities to use data science techniques to be more effective
• Implement data science techniques to improve data analysis
• Implement data science techniques to improve processes
• Implement data science techniques to solve business problems
• Continually evaluate new models that emerge and leverage cloud technologies to improve performance of models
• Continually evaluate and advise on the future outlook of the ML/AI industry

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Prefer 2+ years of experience in a similar data analytics role
• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Business, or related field preferred
• Experience in the insurance or related industry preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively with peers, executive management, agents and sales staff
• Must possess excellent organizational and time management skills, a desire to work in a fast paced team environment
