Job description

The incumbent is responsible to oversee daily cross-border/road freight operations between Singapore and regional markets as well as the domestic trucking and transportation. The candidate will be responsible for managing daily operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, optimizing transport efficiency, developing carrier and vendor relationships, and delivering exceptional service and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily cross-border freight operations and the domestic trucking and transportation.
• Manage the daily, end-to-end road freight operations, including planning, scheduling, and monitoring cross-border truck movements.
• Plan, coordinate, and optimize truck movements between Singapore, Malaysia, and other countries.
• Develop contingency plans to minimize operational disruptions and delays.
• Ensure compliance with prevailing service level agreements (SLAs).
• Coordinate customs clearance requirements with customs brokers and relevant authorities.
• Ensures proper documentation, permits, and licenses are maintained.
• Stay current on changes and updates on customs, transport, and trade regulations affecting cross-border movements.
• Ensure compliance with Singapore and the relevant country’s customs regulations and cross-border requirements.
• Effectively monitor shipment status and proactively resolve delays, clearance issues, or operational disruptions.
• Build and maintain strong business relationships with trucking companies and transport partners to develop strategic partnerships.
• Negotiate transportation rates and service agreements.
• Monitor vendor’s performance based on prevailing KPIs.
• Source and qualify new transport partners to support business growth.
• Act as the primary escalation point for customers regarding cross-border and road freight issues.
• Work closely with commercial team to develop logistics solutions for customers requiring cross border and road freight.
• Provide customers with shipment updates, performance reports, and operational improvements.
• Coordinate with internal departments, including operations and customer services, to ensure smooth operations.
• Maintain accurate records of shipments, costs, and documentation.
• Track KPIs such as transit time, delivery performance, cost control, and customer satisfaction
• Lead the Cross Border and Transport team.

Requirements

- Possess effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- At least 5 years of experience in freight forwarding or cross-border trucking operations.
- Good knowledge of Singapore–Malaysia cross-border procedures and customs regulations.
- Knowledge of TradeNet and/or customs declaration systems.
- Strong coordination and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective negotiation and vendor management capabilities.
- Effective people management skills.

- Possess Tertiary qualifications.
- Knowledge of HS codes and tariff classifications.
- Familiarity with GPS tracking systems or transport management systems (TMS).
- Knowledge freight costing and pricing.
