Role Overview
BBVA is seeking a driven, high-energy Sales Associate Lead to join our Emerging Markets (EM) team. This role is designed for a professional who is eager to master the complexities of the financial markets and transition into a client-facing coverage role.
The position begins with a comprehensive 3 to 6-month training period focused on the synergy between sales and trading. Upon completion, you will be responsible for covering institutional investor clients, specializing in fixed income cash and derivative instruments, as well as foreign exchange (FX) within the emerging markets sector.
Core Responsibilities
- Client Coverage: Manage and grow relationships with institutional investors, providing insights and execution services for EM fixed income including derivatives, cash, and FX products.
- Sales-Trading Integration: Collaborate closely with the trading desk to understand market liquidity, pricing, and risk, ensuring maximum flow and profitability.
- Relationship Management: Develop a deep understanding of client needs to provide tailored investment solutions and deepen the firm's franchise value.
- Cross-Border Collaboration: Work seamlessly with global colleagues across BBVA’s diverse international footprint to leverage local market expertise.
- Market Analysis: Maintain a high level of expertise in EM market trends, macroeconomics, and derivative structures.

We are looking for a "hunter" personality who balances technical proficiency with exceptional interpersonal skills.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Market Knowledge: Foundational understanding of fixed income, derivatives, and FX concepts. A specific interest in Emerging Markets is essential.
- Sales Persona: An outgoing, proactive nature with the confidence to engage clients and the willingness to travel/meet for off-site coverage as needed.
- Precision: Exceptional attention to detail; in the world of derivatives and cash execution, accuracy is non-negotiable.
- Growth Mindset: A high degree of curiosity and a relentless desire to learn and evolve within a fast-paced environment.
- SIE, 7, 63 licenses
Preferred Qualifications:
- Language: Proficiency in Spanish is a significant advantage given BBVA’s global footprint, though not a strict requirement.
Measuring Success
Your performance will be evaluated through a balanced scorecard approach:
- Quantitative: Measured by franchise growth, trade flow, and contribution to desk profitability.
- Qualitative: Measured by the depth of client relationships developed and the quality of your collaboration with internal stakeholders and global teammates.

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary ranges from $140,000 to $180,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
