This position plays a vital role in promoting highway safety through law enforcement education and training. Duties include the following:<div style="color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 1); font-style: normal; text-indent: 0; text-align: justify"><br></div><div style="color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 1); font-style: normal; text-indent: 0; text-align: justify"><strong>Duties include:</strong></div><ul><li><p style="text-align: justify">Performs instructional duties in assigned courses, including all traffic safety subjects for basic law enforcement training, such as basic traffic law, traffic direction, traffic stops, collision investigation and reporting, DUI detection, standardized field sobriety testing (SFST), and practical exercises.</p></li><li><p style="text-align: justify">Conducts classroom and hands-on instruction in traffic safety topics for basic and selected advanced law enforcement training programs. Assists other South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy units with law enforcement training as needed.</p></li><li><p style="text-align: justify">Maintains all required instructor certifications and position-related requirements in a timely and accurate manner, including instructor activity reports, PowerDMS policy reviews, ACADIS training, and other required certifications and training.</p></li><li><p style="text-align: justify">Researches, develops, and updates lesson plans, instructional materials, and practical exercises to reflect current laws, statistical trends, and best practices in traffic safety and crash investigation.</p></li><li><p style="text-align: justify">Serves as a subject matter expert in traffic safety by providing technical guidance and support to Academy staff and partner agencies as appropriate.</p></li><li><p style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0; text-align: justify">Performs law enforcement duties during critical incidents, including natural disasters and man-made emergencies, as assigned.<br>&nbsp;</p></li></ul><br><span style="color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 1); font-style: normal; text-indent: 0"><strong>Minimum</strong></span><strong style="color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 1); font-style: normal; text-indent: 0">&nbsp;requirements:<br style="color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 1); font-style: normal; text-indent: 0"></strong><ul style="padding-left: 40px; list-style-type: disc; margin-top: 0; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 1); font-style: normal; text-indent: 0" type="disc"><li style="list-style-type: inherit">High school diploma and eight (8) years of law enforcement experience <em><strong>or</strong></em></li><li style="list-style-type: inherit">Associate degree and six (6) years of law enforcement experience <em><strong>or</strong></em><strong>&nbsp;</strong></li><li style="list-style-type: inherit">Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of law enforcement experience <em><strong>and</strong></em></li><li style="list-style-type: inherit">Experience must include two (2) years of road experience <strong><em>and</em></strong></li><li style="list-style-type: inherit"><span style="color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-align: left; text-indent: 0">Currently certified S.C. Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) <strong><em>or</em></strong></span></li><li style="list-style-type: inherit"><span style="color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-align: left; text-indent: 0">Currently a certified LEO in another <strong>***</strong>jurisdiction with full powers of arrest with the ability to become an S.C.
