Position Overview:

The Credit Analyst is responsible for evaluating the creditworthiness of Motiva’s counterparties and partnering with commercial teams to establish appropriate credit limits. This role performs credit risk analysis, recommends credit limits, negotiates and monitors security, interfaces with customers and business units, balances risk and return, approves block orders that exceed established credit limits, and supports Credit team initiatives aligned with business unit goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with commercial desks, functional support teams, and customers by developing creative solutions that support business strategies.

  • Perform detailed financial statement analysis to develop counterparty risk profiles and establish credit limits within designated authority levels.

  • Prepare in-depth credit analyses and business rationales to support approval requests above delegated authority levels.

  • Meet and communicate directly with customers’ senior financial leaders to gain insight into customer financial health and risk exposure.

  • Negotiate security arrangements to support credit limits not fully supported by financials and ensure timely renewal or replacement of security before expiration.

  • Apply sound judgment and conduct proper due diligence in accordance with Motiva’s Credit Policy standards.

  • Approve the release of product or liftings above established credit limits, as appropriate.

  • Develop analytics and reporting for operational, management, and ad hoc business needs.

  • Coordinate with external vendors to improve credit evaluation efficiency and accuracy through enhanced rating methodologies.

  • Support Credit and related internal system implementations and upgrades by providing technical guidance, validating system specifications, and designing, executing, and reporting on system and service testing.

  • Develop business test scenarios to identify expected outcomes, potential gaps, and opportunities for improvement within the credit system.

Experience and Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in a credit risk function or related role, including energy credit experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing work demands.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a credit risk function or related role, including energy credit experience.

  • Strong ability to analyze counterparty financials, industry trends, country risk research, and business and market information.

  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment with strong commercial acumen.

  • Knowledge of and proficiency with SAP S/4HANA and RightAngle systems.

  • Experience supporting system implementations and project management, specifically with ETRM and Credit Risk systems.

  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycles and systems integration methodologies.

  • Experience identifying software enhancement opportunities, analyzing user needs, and recommending improvements to business processes and system efficiencies.
