Job Title: Student Prevention Assistant

Department: Counseling Services

Supervisor: Andrew Wedlock (Prevention Coordinator, Counseling Services)

Starting Rate of Pay: $10.00

Length of Time: Eligible for rehire on a semester basis.

Job Description:

The Student Prevention Assistant will support the Prevention Coordinator in implementing and promoting wellness, education, and prevention initiatives across campus. This position plays a vital role in fostering a culture of awareness, resilience, and student well-being by assisting with outreach, programming, data collection, and communication efforts related to prevention education.

Job Location/ Hours Required:

The candidate will perform most/all job duties in Counseling Services. Hours may vary depending on the job requirements; however, the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours. This position requires up to 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning, promoting, and facilitating prevention education programs and awareness campaigns (e.g., alcohol and drug awareness, stress management, healthy relationships, mental health initiatives).
  • Help design and distribute marketing materials, social media content, and outreach campaigns to engage the student body.
  • Support peer education and student engagement by serving as a representative at events, tabling sessions, and campus activities.
  • Collect, organize, and enter program data for assessment and reporting purposes.
  • Provide administrative support, including scheduling, preparing program supplies, and maintaining resource materials.
  • Collaborate with campus partners, student organizations, and departments to promote prevention initiatives.
  • Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and sensitivity when working on prevention-related topics.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current High Point University student in good academic standing.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends for special events.

Desired Skills:

  • Interest in mental health, counseling, wellness, or prevention education.
  • Experience with event planning, peer leadership, or student organization involvement.
  • Creativity in marketing, outreach, or social media engagement.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Canva, social media platforms, and data entry tools.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
