Consultant, Environment and Planning

What you’ll do

As a Consultant, Environment and Planning in our Environment and Planning team based in Mackay, you’ll support the delivery of projects and programs that make a real difference and be part of a team that embraces challenges, welcomes diverse ideas, and engineer solutions with people and outcomes in mind.

  • Contribute to environmental impact assessments, Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) and environmental approvals projects

  • Undertake flora and fauna surveys and ecological assessments across a range of projects

  • Prepare high-quality ecological reports and technical documentation

  • Work alongside experienced project managers and technical specialists to deliver projects across defence, renewable energy, transport and broader infrastructure sectors. Based in Mackay, you'll enjoy access to incredible field locations across tropical Queensland while working on nationally significant infrastructure projects.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical environmental outcomes

  • You'll work alongside experienced ecologists and environmental specialists who will support your technical development and provide opportunities to broaden your skills across ecology, approvals and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.

What you’ll bring

  • Around 2-3 years' experience in ecology, environmental planning or environmental approvals.

  • Relevant qualifications in environmental science, ecology, or a related discipline

  • Experience delivering flora and fauna surveys, ecological assessments and reporting

  • Experience using GIS software (ArcGIS or QGIS) is desirable

  • Working knowledge of environmental legislation, including the EPBC Act. Experience with Queensland legislation is highly regarded. Experience contributing to environmental impact assessment and approval processes

  • Strong communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Experience preparing Significant Impact Assessments, Bushfire Hazard Assessments or Bushfire Risk Assessments will be highly regarded. Four-wheel drive and First Aid certifications are desirable

  • Defence sector experience and Australian citizenship are advantageous
