This position plays a critical role in ensuring highway construction projects meet established standards through detailed inspections, testing, and documentation. The role combines technical expertise with hands-on fieldwork, offering a dynamic work environment where no two days are the same. Responsibilities include conducting surveys, inspecting construction activities, testing materials, monitoring contractor performance for compliance with plans and specifications, reviewing project plans for accuracy, identifying potential conflicts, and ensuring proper sampling and testing procedures are followed. The position also requires maintaining thorough and accurate project documentation, preparing pay estimates, and completing final contract records, making strong attention to detail essential.</p><p>This position is located in Basin, Wyoming, a community established in 1896 and known as the “Lilac City” due to its deep agricultural roots and charm. checks work against specifications and confers with contractors, engineers, and work crews.</li><li>Review highway design plans to verify existing utilities, determine utility conflicts, contact utility companies to notify highway projects, and confirm utility conflicts.</li><li>Responsible for project documentation, pay estimates, and final contract documents.</li><li>Verifies and documents work activities.</li><li>Regularly monitors and inspects work and calculates the payment of contractors.</li><li>Maintains crew diaries and logs supporting departmental record-keeping and/or contract administration activities.</li><li>Ensure that materials sampling and testing are performed properly; audit material summaries for QA/QC purposes.</li><li>Assists in the preparation of recommendations used to design construction projects.</li><li>Anticipates potential problems before going to contract.</li><li>Check preliminary plans for errors and problems.</li><li>Communicates both internally and externally regarding project information and courses of action/consequences on larger projects.</li><li>Researches land ownership and contacts landowners to secure permission to enter their land to conduct surveys.</li><li>Prepares and checks the documentation to be sent to the district finals office.</li><li>Oversees minor to more complex construction projects by documenting pay quantities, coordinating subordinates' work schedules, and working with contractors for quality control.</li><li>Prepares and updates reports as needed.</li><li>Assists and supports the District Land Surveyor and the district administrative personnel.</li></ul><br><br><strong>PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:</strong> <br><br><br>Preference may be given to applicants with 2-4 years of progressive work experience in roadway construction methods, contract administration, survey experience, and material testing.<br><br>**Must have the ability to obtain the following certifications/licenses:<br> *Valid Driver's License<div style="margin-left: 40px">*Defensive Driving<br>*QC/QA Certification in Soils & Aggregate, Asphalt, and Concrete<br>*Asphalt Concrete, Soil & Aggregate<br>*WYDOT Portland Cement Concrete<br>*ACI Concrete Level 2</div><div style="margin-left: 40px">*American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Certification</div><br><br><strong>KNOWLEDGE: </strong><br><br> <ul><li>Knowledge of project coordination and monitoring.
