Position Summary:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist will mainly be responsible for the quality of nurse practices and patient care within the Oncology unit. The nurse specialist serves as a senior clinical practitioner and provides consultation for nursing.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Set patient care standards
  • Determines need for practice change through research evidence and clinical inquiry.
  • Evaluates patient outcomes for cost-effectiveness
  • Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
  • Lead Oncology Nurse Staff education by
    • Updating nurse staff on latest research evidence
    • Implementing education programs, as needed, for patient, and families in addition to nurses
    • Teaching and mentoring nursing personnel in patient care implementation and development
    • Assessing organizational factors that affect patient populations, quality, resources, and costs of care
    • Leading scholarly meetings with educational materials
    • Influencing policy implementations and changes in the Oncology unit

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of recent experience Oncology experience, required
  • At least 2 years of management experience or working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, required

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing required.
  • Current Massachusetts Nursing licensure required.
  • Educational preparation as a Clinical Nurse Specialist highly desired.
