Job Description Summary

Manage the nutrition care of all patients through consultations and evaluations based on data from nutrition assessments, lab reports, medical and social history and current diagnosis. Develop and participate in nutrition related community activities. Represent the department and the facility in public contacts. Coordinate quality improvement and regulatory activities for food and nutrition services. Act as a resource to department for all patient and nutrition functions. At least seventh-five (75%) percent of all work activities are related to direct patient care. May educate food service department or other departments of the hospital on portion control, diet restrictions, tube feedings, formulary/supplements, preparation and delivery of patient nourishments and courtesy trays. The dietitian communicates and educates patients, families, supervisors, and co-workers. Professional behavior and maintaining confidentiality is required at all times.


Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or related field fulfilling the requirements for registration with American Dietetic Association. At least two years experience in clinical dietetics is preferred;
  • Completion of an approved dietetic internship, traineeship or CUP program in dietetics;
  • Current credentialing with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, or eligible CDR credentialing, and licensed by the state.  If Registration eligible, must pass the ADA exam within twelve months of hire date;
  • Ability to develop and implement short and long range unit goals and programs within departmental policies;
  • Familiarity with performance responsibilities of Dietetic Assistant/Diet Clerk;
  • Knowledge and expertise in clinical dietetics;
  • This job has direct patient care for the following patients: Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric         

LANGUAGE/ COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, write and follow spoken and / or written instructions in English as would normally be achieved with 9 to 11 years of schooling;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in communication-written and oral.  Must have demonstrated ability to plan, implement, evaluate and coordinate as an effective team player.

SKILLS:

  • Ability to work well with others, and stamina to meeting high production schedules;
  • Manual dexterity and motor coordination are required;
  • Ability to walk, sit and stand for extended periods throughout the day.
