Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.</span>An employee in this position performs work to support the Engineering Department and its staff. The position may be used as part of an internship program with a college, university, or high school.<br><br><strong>Examples of Work</strong>: Receives training and performs duties in support of the Engineering Department. Specific tasks and responsibilities will be determined by the intern’s supervisor and the needs of the department. The intern will be asked to perform, participate in, and observe activities relevant to the department. Activities vary by division but may include assisting with projects, research, preparation of reports, inter-office communication, attending meetings and events, and general office tasks. Performs related work as required.<br><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Assists in the office or in the field with various projects related to traffic or civil engineering</li><li>Becomes familiar with the City street system</li><li>Utilizes relevant engineering/drafting tools</li><li>Reviews maps and plans&nbsp;</li><li>Maintains records in an organized manner and in accordance with department rules and policies</li><li>Researches, studies, and files records as needed</li><li>Coordinates and communicates with management staff daily regarding the status of projects and assignments</li></ul><br><strong>Minimum Qualifications:&nbsp;</strong><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>At least 16 years of age</li><li>Must be one of the following:<ul><li>Current enrollment in high school (or recent graduate) with an interest in civil engineering <strong>OR</strong></li><li>Planned or current enrollment in college/university in civil engineering, traffic engineering, computer science, or related field.&nbsp;</li></ul></li><li>Strong communication skills both written and orally. The Civil Service Department will refer qualified applicants to the Engineering Department for consideration. You will receive an email notice informing you whether your application was referred. It will be at the discretion of the Engineering Department to contact applicants for interviews.
