Ch. 17 Special Inspector

The purpose of this position is to provide various testing and inspections on new and on-going projects to verify compliance with building codes and standards

Responsibilities include:

• Performs routine field tests or inspections
• Complete structural concrete and reinforcing code and job specification compliance 
• Structural masonry code and job specification compliance
• Pre-stressed and post tension concrete tendons and reinforcing code and job specification compliance
• Inspection of soil, concrete, asphalt and/or steel
• Spray applied fireproofing code and job specification compliance
• Daily communication with site contractors, other technicians and/or inspectors and project managers
• Complete accurate and detailed field testing/inspection reports and/or diagrams

Education:

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
• Preferred: 2 or 4 year degree in Civil Engineering/Civil Engineering Technology or relevant field of study

Skills:

• Ability to calculate results from construction inspections
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents
• Ability to accurately complete field testing paperwork and detailed figures
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations, to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Professional Certifications:

• Required: ICC Certifications: Masonry, Soils, Spray-Applied Proofing, etc. 
• Preferred knowledge or certifications in radiation safety, NCDOT/SCDOT Roadway, Earthworks, and Concrete certification.

Experience

• Preferred 4 year degree and/or 2 years of field and/or inspections experience
