Provides highly individualized services in the community and promotes individual self-determination and decision-making to individuals with Mental Health or Substance Abuse issues. Certified Peer Support Specialists also provide essential expertise and consultation to the entire team to promote a culture in which each individual’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation , and community self-help activities. This position may serve as an advocate for the person supported. Performs a wide range of tasks to assist the people supported in regaining control over their own recovery processes. These interventions are strength-based and focused on promoting recovery, symptom reduction, increased coping skills, and achievement of the highest level of functioning in the community. Functions as a role model of competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills.

PSS – Southern Team 

Seeking candidates with NCPSS (NC Peer Support Specialist Certification) to provide services to adults with Mental Health and or Substance Abuse issues.  Prefer candidates with at least one year of direct care experience. Seeking a candidate who is self-motivated and comfortable working with adults in their homes.   

This position requires you to spend the bulk of your time in the field working directly with clients in the southern counties of the Trillium catchment area which includes: Randolph, Harnett, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Anson, Richmond, and Hoke.    

As a Peer Support (PSS) staff member you perform a wide range of tasks to assist the people supported to regain control over their own recovery, reduce symptoms, increase coping skills and achieve the highest level of functioning in their community.  This position requires strong skills in organization and documentation.  Services are provided in the community and promote individual self-determination and decision making. As a PSS, you function as a role model of competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills.  You provide essential expertise and consultation to the entire team to promote a culture in which each individual’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation and community self-help activities.

Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, flexible

Location: Community Based

Certification Requirement: The employee must complete all required training and certification within the first 30 days of employment. RHA will cover 50% of the course cost upfront at the start of employment and will reimburse the remaining eligible amount after the employee successfully completes 90 days of employment.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Modeling effective coping and self-help techniques to individuals
  • Providing empowerment skills and support in successful recovery living
  • Assisting individuals in finding resources, advising of processes, and encouraging follow through with proposed resolutions, locating social activities, or provide other assistance as needed
  • Leading peer support groups with individuals served
  • Supporting/assisting individuals in daily decision making and resolution of minor problems
  • Facilitating social opportunities in the community
  • Fostering development of healthy relationships by encouraging participation in community activities
  • Sharing personal story of recovery and resilience to instill hope​

Position Requirements:

  • Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist in NC or PA
  • 2 years experience working with individuals with behavioral health issues preferred
  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance and reliable transportation
