The Capital Equipment Supervisor is responsible for leading the daily operations of the Capital Equipment team while ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of Velo3D's additive manufacturing equipment. This position provides direct supervision to Lead Capital Equipment Technicians, Capital Equipment Technicians, and Process Technicians, balancing hands-on technical work with leadership and administrative responsibilities.
The Capital Equipment Supervisor is accountable for team performance, employee development, work prioritization, staffing, and maintenance execution while supporting production objectives. Working closely with Production, Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Facilities, this role ensures maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and with minimal impact to production. The ideal candidate is an experienced maintenance professional who demonstrates strong technical expertise, effective leadership, and a commitment to developing high-performing teams.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, coach, and develop Lead Capital Equipment Technicians, Capital Equipment Technicians, and Process Technicians.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide regular coaching, and address performance concerns with guidance from management.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning.
- Interview candidates and provide hiring recommendations.
- Coordinate onboarding and training for new technicians.
- Ensure all technicians complete required technical and safety training.
- Manage technician schedules, attendance, vacation coverage, and timecard approvals.
- Allocate personnel and resources to support production priorities and equipment needs.
- Partner with Leads to ensure work is appropriately assigned and completed.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs on Velo3D additive manufacturing systems.
- Support technicians during complex equipment failures and provide technical guidance.
- Determine maintenance priorities based on equipment status and production requirements.
- Verify equipment is safe and ready to return to production following repairs.
- Assist with maintenance activities during periods of high workload or critical equipment failures.
- Ensure preventive maintenance is completed according to schedule and company standards.
- Promote consistent maintenance practices and adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Review and ensure proper Salesforce work orders, maintenance cases, equipment logs, and service documentation.
- Ensure maintenance documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted in a timely manner.
- Monitor work order backlog and prioritize maintenance activities to support production goals.
- Communicate equipment status, maintenance priorities, and resource needs to management and cross-functional teams.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules with Production to minimize equipment downtime.
- Track technician training, certifications, and compliance requirements.
