Business Architect

The consultant will be expected to do the following:



1. Interview a series of business unit leaders who have already validated their capabilities with DMO to capture information around the following topics, utilizing the Business Capability Model framework at the direction of DMO:


o Business units in this category include: Lawyers, HTB and IHG/Non-Profits, Accounting Operations


o Interviews will be conducted in a manner to collect the deliverable information below.


o Deliverables:


 Validate the capabilities as front – middle – back office capabilities, per DMO definition


 Capture the systems employed or supporting each capability (levels 1 – 4)


 Determine for each capability the automation status: manual process, partial automation, full automation. Definitions: a) manual process includes manual work involving basic office tools such as Excel or Access; b) partial automation includes using some features of the system mapped to the capability (levels 1 – 4); c) full automation includes using all the features of the system mapped to the capability (levels 1 – 4).


 Capture business pain points in operations or systems for each capability (levels 1 – 4)


 Produce the updated spreadsheets of the above information based on DMO templates, produce the corresponding heat maps in Visio/Powerpoint.


 Contribute to the analysis of collected information for management consumption on the enterprise implications.


2. Interview a series of business unit leaders with DMO who we have not yet had their capabilities defined with DMO to capture information around the following topics, utilizing the Business Capability Model framework at the direction of DMO:


o Business units in this category include: Financial Professionals (Accountants, AICPA Insurance Trust), Insurance Agents & Agencies (Agents Professional Liability), Healthcare Professionals (Healthcare, Dentist’s Advantage, Healthcare Firms, HPSO & NSO), K&K (Sports, Leisure, Entertainment; K&K Commercial Solutions), Johnson Rooney Welch (AD&D for 1K+ firms), Bankers Insurance Services (Mortgage Banker Bonds), A&E Advantage (Architects & Engineers).


o Deliverables:

Interview a final series of business unit leaders (if we have time allotted due to the size and likely complexity of the larger BU's encompassing the capabilities of most of those BU's) with DMO who we have not yet had their capabilities defined with DMO to capture information around the following topics, utilizing the Business Capability Model framework at the direction of DMO:


o Business units in this category include: JRW, Bankers A&E and MPL agents.


o Deliverables:


 Capture and validate the business capabilities based on the Business Capability Model framework. Identify capabilities used, capabilities not used, capture any unknown capabilities, redefine capabilities as needed.


 Validate the capabilities as front – middle – back office capabilities, per DMO definition


 Capture the systems employed or supporting each capability (levels 1 – 4)

Required Consultant Skills



The consultant should fit the following profile of skills:



• Insurance industry knowledge


• Insurance operations knowledge


• Brokerage knowledge


• Business architecture knowledge and experience


• Business analysis knowledge and experience


• Operations modeling experience


• Customer interviewing, elicitation and facilitation skills


• Excel, Powerpoint and Visio expertise


• Knowledgeable of different insurance standards and business architecture frameworks: ACORD, APQC, TOGAF, other related disciplines




DMO Role



DMO will be responsible for:



• Setting up the interviews with business unit leaders


• Reviewing all consultant work, quality assurance, deliverables resulting in any corrections or amendments needed to finalize the modeling efforts.


• Participating with the consultant in discussions with the business units


• Providing clarification of work to be done


• Providing documentation templates, standards and onboarding of consultant



DMO will onboard the consultant on:



• roadmap for business architecture roll out


• Business Capability Model: structure, standards, templates, tool


• Excel spreadsheet templates, Powerpoint/Visio heat map templates and source materials, along with assessment templates based on the capability model


• Information standards for captured information
