Under supervision of the Chief Inspector, this position demonstrates strong time management and self-direction as they perform field inspections of complex development sites, systems, work in progress or completed work, issue notices of violations for non-conformance, and re-inspect when deficiencies are corrected.&nbsp;<p>A Building Inspector is sub-classified per trade qualifications as either "Structural", "Electrical", "Plumbing" or "Mechanical". As an essential employee, a Building Inspector will be required to perform post-tropical cyclone damage assessment or other special work detail. All Inspectors must meet all the education and experience requirements, hold required licensure and certifications, and have additional inspection work experience, all as noted below.&nbsp;</p><span style="color: inherit"><strong>Positions Available:</strong></span><ul><li><span style="color: inherit"><strong>Building Inspector I:&nbsp;</strong>Starting at $34.20/hour</span></li><li><span style="color: inherit"><strong>Building Inspector II:&nbsp;</strong>Starting at $35.91/hour</span></li><li><span style="color: inherit"><strong>Building Inspector III:</strong> Starting at $37.71/hour</span></li></ul><ul type="disc" style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Inspect buildings under construction, alteration, repair and existing buildings for compliance with approved plans and applicable city, county, state and federal codes.</li><li>Ensure installation and construction are substantially compliant with approved plans and specifications.</li><li>Identify hazardous conditions; issue notices, warnings or stop-work orders; re-inspect to verify corrections.</li><li>Prepare accurate inspection reports, maintain records, and testify in court as required.</li><li>Communicate professionally and timely with contractors, property owners, public, and staff about code requirements, inspections, and corrections.</li><li>Use inspection/permit software and other business systems; learn evolving technologies.</li><li>Participate in on-call rotation for fire-incident inspections and perform post-tropical cyclone damage assessments or other emergency special details.</li><li><span style="color: inherit">Applies appropriate regulations and codes with guidance, as necessary, from the Chief Inspector or Building Official.</span></li><li><span style="color: inherit">Investigates complaints and responds to inquiries by taking appropriate action and following up.</span></li><li>Assists in the review and evaluation of building plans for compliance with all applicable codes as assigned.</li><li>Perform related duties as assigned.</li></ul><p><strong>In addition – Level Specific Essential Functions Include:</strong></p><p><u>Building Inspector II (Level II)</u>:</p><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Perform field inspections of complex development sites, systems, work in progress, and completed work under supervision of the Chief Inspector.&nbsp;</li><li>Issue notices of violations for non-conformance and reinspect when deficiencies are corrected.</li><li>Sub-classify work by trade (Structural, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical) and perform trade-specific inspections consistent with certifications.</li><li>Apply codes and regulations with guidance from Chief Inspector or Building Official.</li></ul><p><em>If assigned to the Building Recertification Program, essential functions include:</em></p><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Monitors deadlines for submittal of recertification reports.</li><li>Ensures notices of submittal deadlines are prepared and timely issued.</li><li>Responds to technical questions regarding the program and its requirements.</li><li>Respond to complaints regarding building safety.</li><li>Observing building inspections performed by engineers.</li><li>Assist with the enforcement of code compliance.</li><li>Compile data and preparing reports related to Building Recertification Program.</li><li>Coordinate work with code compliance personnel, building inspectors, planning and zoning personnel, and other City staff.</li><li>Attends Permitting and Construction Review Boards and Special Magistrate hearings regarding building inspection and code compliance cases.</li></ul><p><u>Building Inspector III (Level III)</u>:</p><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Perform highly complex inspections, including major construction projects; serve as subject matter expert and provide guidance/mentoring to Inspectors I and II.</li><li>Assist and provide backup to the Deputy Building Official; help review/evaluate building plans for code compliance.</li><li>May be assigned to specialized programs (e.g., Building Recertification Program, Floodplain Management) with duties including program monitoring, enforcement support, data/report compilation, coordination with other departments, and attendance at hearings.</li></ul><div style="margin: 0;
