The Bereavement Coordinator provides supportive services to help meet the needs of the terminally ill patient and family, provides assistance and understanding to the family in time of bereavement, and works as a member of the Altru Pastoral Care team in providing bereavement care and follow-up. The Bereavement Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing and supervising the bereavement program, training of staff, and the delivery of related services.Essential Job Functions:
Develops educational programs and materials for patients/families, staff and the community regarding loss, grief and coping with bereavement. Maintains inventory of materials for distribution to families eligible for and/or receiving bereavement services.
Oversees adequacy and appropriateness of bereavement programs for patient and family members, developing new bereavement programs and services as needed.
Plans, implements and facilitates bereavement support groups and outreach events. Oversees bereavement follow-up personally and through patient care staff and volunteers.
Participates in the orientation and training of local and regional employees and volunteers working in the bereavement program.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
