Join a Team That Cares for the Whole Child—and the Whole Community

At Open Door Community Health Centers, we believe every child deserves compassionate, whole-person care that supports their physical, emotional, and social well-being. We’re looking for a Pediatric Behavioral Health Clinician (BHC) to join our integrated care team at Plaza Community Health Center, Arcata, California, a vibrant, coastal college town surrounded by redwoods, ocean, and community spirit.

The Opportunity

As a Pediatric BHC, you’ll play a key role on our interdisciplinary care team—collaborating with physicians, nurse practitioners, case managers, and medical assistants to identify, triage, and support children and families with behavioral and mental health needs. You’ll work directly with pediatric patients and their families to promote resilience, emotional regulation, and healthy development through short-term, problem-focused therapy and family-based interventions.

This is a dynamic position ideal for someone who values collaboration, continuity of care, and community impact.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide assessments, brief therapy, skills training, and referrals for children, adolescents, and families.
  • Collaborate closely with primary care providers and other team members through warm hand-offs and integrated treatment planning.
  • Support family systems and parenting challenges to promote a stable, nurturing environment for every child.
  • Coordinate with case managers and community resources to address social, emotional, and environmental needs.
  • Contribute to a culture of compassion, inclusion, and continuous learning.

What We’re Looking For

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT), or Clinical Psychologist in California (active and in good standing).
  • Master’s degree or related field with emphasis on child and family systems.
  • 2–5 years of pediatric behavioral health experience (ages 6–17).
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, CBT, play therapy, and family-centered approaches.
  • Collaborative, flexible, and dedicated to serving diverse communities.
  • Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply.

Why Arcata & Open Door?

Located on California’s beautiful North Coast, Arcata offers a balance of small-town warmth and big-hearted purpose. From redwood hikes to community festivals, this is a place where providers and families thrive together. At Open Door, you’ll join a mission-driven organization that has served Humboldt and Del Norte counties for over 50 years—dedicated to accessible, quality, and compassionate care for all.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package
  • Loan repayment eligibility through NHSC and state programs up to 250k
  • Supportive, team-based work environment with mentorship and training
  • Opportunities for professional growth and continuing education
  • A culture that values work-life balance, inclusion, and wellness
