Job description

The Auto Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining cars, light commercial vehicles, and other motor vehicles. The role involves performing preventive maintenance, identifying mechanical and electrical faults, and ensuring vehicles are safe, reliable, and operating efficiently in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults in vehicles.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and fluid checks.
  • Repair and replace engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering, exhaust systems, cooling systems, and fuel systems.
  • Diagnose vehicle issues using computerized diagnostic equipment and scan tools.
  • Perform wheel alignments, tire repairs, balancing, and rotations as required.
  • Inspect and service vehicle batteries, charging systems, and starting systems.
  • Test repaired vehicles to ensure proper operation and safety.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, repair procedures, and wiring diagrams.
  • Maintain accurate service records, repair reports, and parts usage documentation.
  • Ensure tools, workshop equipment, and work areas are maintained in a clean and safe condition.
  • Recommend necessary repairs and preventive maintenance to supervisors or customers.
  • Comply with company health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and workshop procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of automotive mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair engine, transmission, brake, steering, suspension, and electrical faults.
  • Proficiency in using automotive diagnostic scanners, hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, service bulletins, and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Physical fitness to lift components, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices.
