Position overview

We are seeking a curious and motivated UX Intern to join our team as part of a polytechnic internship placement. The intern will support user experience design activities across research and prototyping, working closely with experienced UX designers and researchers who will provide

structured mentorship throughout. This internship offers hands-on exposure to how user-centred design shapes digital products in an AI-driven organisation.

interest in understanding people, a willingness to try new tools, and a collaborative attitude.

Learning opportunities

• User research fundamentals: Learn how to plan and assist in interviews, surveys, and usability tests with real users and stakeholders.

• Design and prototyping foundations: Build practical skills in sketching, wireframing, andcreating simple clickable prototypes using industry tools.

• AI-augmented design workflow: Get introduced to how AI-powered tools (e.g. Figma AI, generative design assistants) can support and speed up design work.

• Professional development: Work alongside a multidisciplinary team, observe design critiques and team rituals, and start building a professional network.

• Portfolio-ready deliverables: Contribute to real projects that can form part of a school or professional portfolio.

Responsibilities

• UX Intern (User Research / Prototyping)

• Support the team in understanding user needs through simple research activities (e.g.interviews, surveys, usability tests)

• Assist with design and prototyping, such as sketches, wireframes, or simple clickable prototypes

• Explore and get familiar with AI-powered tools to accelerate the design workflow.

• Do desk research to help track UX trends, best practices, and examples from articles, apps, or websites

• Join team meetings and design discussions with guidance from mentors

• Be curious, organised, and willing to learn with clear instructions and support

Education requirements

• Currently pursuing a Diploma in a relevant course such as User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Visual Communication, Digital Media, Information Technology, or a related discipline at a local polytechnic

• Typically in Year 2 or Year 3, undertaking internship as part of the diploma programme

Required skills and qualifications

• Basic awareness of UX/UI concepts (e.g. what wireframes and prototypes are, why user feedback matters)

• Willingness to learn design or prototyping tools (e.g. Figma, Canva, or equivalent); prior experience is helpful but not required

• Good communication skills, both written and verbal

• Ability to work well in a team and take direction from mentors

• Organised and able to follow through on tasks with clear instructions

• Curious, open to feedback, and eager to learn

Preferred qualifications (nice to have)

• School projects or personal work that show an interest in design, research, or creative problem-solving

• Basic familiarity with any design tool (e.g. Figma, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, Canva)

• Interest in how technology and AI are changing the way people interact with products

• Exposure to simple research methods through coursework (e.g. surveys, interviews)

Personal attributes

• Curious and willing to ask questions rather than assume

• Comfortable working in situations where not everything is clearly defined upfront

• Proactive in seeking feedback and improving

• Enthusiastic about learning new things, especially around design and technolog
