[What the role is]
This role is responsible for policy and operational planning and execution for Singapore’s international connectivity in the area of submarine cables. This includes long-term policy planning for submarine cable landing and resource allocation, facilitation of submarine cable licensing and landing, and engagement with local agencies and international counterparts to facilitate deployment, maintenance and repair of submarine cables. This is in support of IMDA’s vision of a building a vibrant, world class info-communications sector that drives the Digital Economy.[What you will be working on]
- Policy review of submarine cable matters
- Operationalise and implement submarine cable policy frameworks, including undertaking reviews of land/sea resource availability and allocation, and assessment of potential challenges that licensees may encounter for their submarine cable operations, and the development and implementation of effective measures to attract and facilitate submarine cables landing in Singapore
- Liaise and coordinate with internal (e.g., other IMDA divisions) and external stakeholders (other government agencies, e.g. MPA, EMA, URA, JTC) to facilitate resource planning and allocation for submarine cables landings, and deployment of submarine cables
- Support evaluation of submarine cable licence applications, including liaising with local agencies to facilitate the approval of submarine cables landing
- Evaluate international policies and engagements on submarine cable matters, including engaging international counterparts to develop norms and policies to facilitate submarine cable deployment, protection, maintenance and repairs
[What we are looking for]
- Background in Economics, Public Policy, Engineering, Business, or related-areas.
- Minimum 2 years of experience and those with prior experience in the infocomm industry, and/or knowledge of regulatory concepts and frameworks would be an advantage. Candidates with no prior experience may also apply.
