Art Technician

Job Description

Purpose

The Creative Arts Technician will contribute to the student, parent/carer experience at Bangkok Prep as part of the Bangkok Creative Arts faculty. They will:

• Ensure well organised systems and processes support the practical experiences in Music, Drama, Art, Photography, Design Technology (resistant materials and graphical design) and Digital Media and Design.
• Ensure resources are ordered, prepared, and supplied to workshops, classrooms and spaces on time.
• Make sure the multiple learning environments are always safe, suitable for the activities planned and inspiring for our learners.

The role of a Secondary Creative Arts Technician is to:

• Work with our community to ensure that all students at Bangkok Prep can access the curriculum and have practical learning experiences in Creative Arts.
• Assist the secondary Creative Arts Faculty in developing resources, lessons and events for our students.

Art and Design: Main Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and clean working environment in classroom and storage areas, working with the maintenance team and external providers when necessary.
• Maintaining organised and tidy Art studios and store rooms.
• Monitoring stock of materials and ordering whenever necessary to keep the store rooms and classrooms fully equipped.
• Preparing Art resources in order to support Teaching and Learning.

Design Technology: Main Responsibilities

• Work closely with teachers and academic support staff including the appointed Design Technology (DT) technician to ensure resources are ordered and prepared for all lessons.
• Liaise with the DT Technician, site maintenance and external providers (as needed) to ensure specialist equipment, tools and machinery are maintained and safe.

Drama: Main Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and clean working environment in the classroom and Black Box and Green Room.
• Assist with school productions each year for example supporting orders by working with purchasing, painting sets, preparing costumes, making props and supporting on show nights.
• Assist in maintaining and organising school drama costumes and props as needed.

Music: Main Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and clean working environment in the classrooms, Recording studio, practice rooms and music storage areas. Liaise with the site maintenance team and cleaning staff as needed.
• Assist with school Music Events and concerts for example supporting orders by working with purchasing, painting sets, making props, preparing sheet music booklets and supporting the events.

Main responsibilities for all Creative Arts departments:

• Assist in setting up events and displays within the Faculty, around the school and at exhibition/performance sites.
• Liaise with the site maintenance team and cleaning staff as needed.
• Assist with photocopying and laminating wherever necessary and ideally by using our reprographics office.
• Assist with the completion of design work and liaise with marketing where necessary including producing event programmes and posters with the event leader
• Complete assigned administrative tasks for the teachers to support events and lessons.
• Work with other key staff to ensure specialist equipment, including instruments are safe, secure and in good working condition for students and staff.

Representing the Faculty within the community

• Support publicising developments in the Creative Arts Faculty. Support celebrating students' achievement through certificates, communication with home, display materials and more.

The duties and responsibilities of this post may vary from time to time according to the changing demands of the school. This job description may be reviewed at the reasonable discretion of the Head of Secondary and in consultation with the post holder. The performance of the Secondary Creative Arts Technician in this key responsibility is formatively reviewed over the year as part of the school’s appraisal process.

The post holder has an individual responsibility to safeguard and promote the health and safety and well-being of children and staff.
