Job Description:

Under general supervision performs para-professional work consisting of assisting with planning, coordinating, and implementing therapeutic craft activities; monitoring and documenting progress at a 24-hour state facility. Assists in setting goals, participates in treatment team meetings as necessary and conducts activities within clearly established procedures; performs related work as assigned.

M-F 8:00am-4:30pm. Hours may vary depending on facility needs with evenings, weekend, holidays and split shifts. $18.88/hr plus $3/hour differential for any hours worked. $200 commuting bonus if driving 30+ miles one way

 

Job duties:

• Assists with planning, organizing, and conducting planned therapeutic crafts in one or more of the therapy services
• Assists Members in therapeutic ceramic projects, painting, leather work, and wood working projects
• Monitors and provides guided leadership to Members in learning how to participate in the planned activities
• Observes member behavior during therapy activities and documents behavior/progress for various Member reports
• Conducts Member assessments and maintains necessary records
• Oversee the use and care of equipment and supplies used for therapy activities.

 

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Coursework/Training in recreation management, music, recreation therapy, occupational therapy, vocational rehabilitation or related field, OR experience leading or conducting games, sports, or musical or other activities or assisting with providing therapy or related services.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Knowledge of: methods for planning and conducting therapeutic craft activities; the fundamentals and rules of various games, and related leisure activities; the general nature of intellectual or other developmental disabilities and gerontology

Skill in: delivery of one or more therapy services; working cooperatively with facility personnel; utilizing therapy methods and techniques in carrying out therapeutic craft activities; communicating with residents, members, or patients and understanding their problems and needs.

Ability to: form effective therapeutic relationships with members; obtain and maintain member interest and participation in activities; instruct members how to perform an activity; observe and document member behavior; learn the principles and methods of therapeutic activities; keep records and compile reports.
