The Opportunity:

The Center for Student Excellence supports student success from admissions through graduation, across all programs and campuses. Support encompasses guidance, resources, supportive spaces, connections to student activities and organizations, and more. Students are supported by advisors/coordinators, student success coaches, and admission and program coordinators.

As the Academic Advisor and Success Coach for the WSU Spokane Campus in the College of Nursing, you will play an essential role in supporting undergraduate nursing students throughout their academic journey. You will help students navigate their educational pathways, connect with resources, and develop strategies for academic success that promote persistence, achievement, and timely degree completion. Your work will contribute to the College's commitment to student success and the development of future nursing professionals.

In this role, you will provide academic advising and success coaching to a caseload of approximately 175 undergraduate nursing students. You will monitor academic progress and student records to identify individuals who may be experiencing challenges and implement targeted interventions, coaching, referrals, and other support strategies to promote student success. You will collaborate with College personnel to resolve academic issues, support presentations and programming, and maintain accurate advising documentation. Additionally, you will contribute to institutional efforts that promote student persistence, achievement, and timely degree completion.

Percentage Breakdown of Job Functions:

  • 45% Academic Advising

  • 30% Student Success Coach

  • 20% Administrative Functions

  • 5% Other Duties as Assigned

    Additional Information:

    This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

    Monthly Salary: $3,750.85 - $5,397.56 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

    In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience working with students in an educational setting or related experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

    • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office including Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.

    • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines.

    • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently.

    • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel and work some evening and weekend hours.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • One (1) year or more of experience providing student services in a higher education institution.

    • Outstanding interpersonal and student‑service skills with one (1) or more years of experience in academic advising, student coaching, customer service, or a related student‑facing role.

    • Experience supporting students experiencing academic difficulty through proactive advising, coaching interventions, early alerts, retention initiatives, or related student success programs.

    • Master’s degree in a related field.

    • Knowledge of curriculum management practices, processes, and academic policies.

    • Experience working with and maintaining student academic records, including degree audits, advising documentation, and progression monitoring.

    • Familiarity with Washington State University academic rules, regulations, and student information systems.
