Reporting to the Chief Pilot, the Senior Manager Fleet Operations is responsible for setting and executing the strategic direction for fleet operations across Qantas Freight's domestic and international fleets. This role provides leadership across flight technical matters, fleet planning, operational readiness, pilot standards and regulatory compliance, ensuring the safe, efficient and sustainable operation of the airline.
Leading a team of pilots and operational leaders, you'll drive fleet transformation initiatives, provide expert operational guidance, and influence critical decisions impacting aircraft operations, policy, safety and standards. You'll also play a key role in supporting the organisation's obligations under aviation regulations while delivering operational stability and business performance.
What you'll be responsible for:
- Developing and driving fleet operations strategies that support long-term business objectives.
- Providing technical leadership across domestic and international fleets.
- Leading fleet transformation and business improvement initiatives.
- Ensuring operational readiness for new routes, bases and fleet changes.
- Maintaining compliance with aviation legislation, regulatory requirements and company operating standards.
- Managing performance reporting, operational analytics and fleet effectiveness.
- Leading and developing a team of operational leaders and pilots.
- Overseeing Company Aviation Assessment Centre (CAAC) processes, including pilot performance, standards and progression.
- Influencing key stakeholders across Flight Operations and the wider Qantas Group.
- Driving a strong safety culture through leadership, governance and risk management.
You'll bring:
- 10+ years' experience in a complex airline operations or fleet management leadership role.
- Qualified Pilot credentials.
- Extensive experience within airline flight operations and fleet management.
- Strong knowledge of the Civil Aviation Act, Regulations and associated aviation requirements.
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale operational change and transformation programs.
- Proven people leadership experience with the ability to influence and engage diverse stakeholders.
- Strong commercial acumen, including financial management and cost control.
- Deep understanding of airline safety, quality and operational assurance systems.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical capability and decision-making skills.
- Experience operating effectively in high-pressure, time-critical environments.
