Senior Android Engineer

London Until 10/9/2026 First posted August 10, 2026 Last posted August 10, 2026
Job description

LHV Bank Limited is a UK-licensed bank operating across three core business segments: Retail Banking, SME Lending, and Banking Services (BaaS). The bank is a wholly owned subsidiary of LHV Group, a listed financial services provider headquartered in Estonia. LHV Bank operates under a full UK banking licence granted in May 2023.

The Bank supports over 200 fintech clients with embedded financial infrastructure, provides retail savings products via digital channels, and offers SME credit solutions across the UK. In line with its regulatory responsibilities and growth ambitions, LHV Bank is committed to maintaining a robust and proportionate financial crime control environment.

Expanding our services, LHV Bank now provides personal banking solutions. Our offerings include current accounts with competitive interest rates, fixed-rate bonds for long-term savings, and debit cards.  Customers can conveniently access these services through the LHV App, enabling secure account opening and management.

About the team

You'll join LHV Bank's Retail Banking team, a cross-functional group of iOS, Android and Backend engineers working alongside Product and Design to build the app customers use to manage their money: accounts, cards, payments, savings, deposits, and onboarding/KYC. The Android codebase is modular and Kotlin-first, organised into independent core and feature modules.

About the role

We're hiring a Senior Android Engineer to take a leading technical role on the app. You'll own meaningful feature areas end to end, raise the bar on code quality and architecture, and mentor engineers across the team. You'll work closely with product, design, and backend engineering to ship features that are secure, fast, and genuinely good to use. There's also the option to contribute to our Kotlin backend-for-frontend (BFF), for engineers who want exposure across the stack.

What you'll work on

  • Design, build, and maintain features across our Android app, from UI in Compose through to networking and data layers.
  • Drive architectural decisions for the modules you own and write or review ADRs for significant changes.
  • Improve app performance, stability, and startup/runtime metrics. Use best practices in observability to investigate and resolve production issues.
  • Review code and mentor other engineers, with particular focus on architecture, testing, and Compose best practices.
  • Contribute to the CI/CD pipeline, build tooling, and test strategy (unit, screenshot, and instrumented tests).
  • Work directly with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to shape features from spec to release.
  • Optionally pick up work on our Kotlin BFF, if you want to build depth on the backend side too.

Our stack

  • Kotlin-first, Jetpack Compose-native
  • Coroutines + Flow for fast, reactive UX
  • Hilt for clean, scalable dependency injection
  • Ktor powering app networking and our Kotlin BFF
  • Multi-module, feature-first architecture
  • Git-based CI/CD

What we're looking for

  • Significant production Android experience, with strong, hands-on Kotlin skills.
  • Solid experience with Jetpack Compose and modern declarative UI patterns.
  • Comfort with coroutines/Flow for asynchronous and reactive code.
  • Experience with a DI framework and modular app architecture (MVVM/MVI).
  • Experience connecting Android apps to backend services via REST/networking libraries (Ktor, Retrofit, or similar).
  • A track record of writing tested, maintainable code, and reviewing others' code constructively.
  • Awareness of mobile security best practices, given we're a regulated bank handling financial data.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with product and design.

Nice to have

  • Experience in fintech, banking, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience with screenshot/visual regression testing.
  • Familiarity with using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Copilot, etc.) as part of a professional workflow.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives.

Why LHV Bank

We're building a digital bank from the ground up, which means you're not maintaining someone else's decade-old stack. You'll own what you build, work with a team that cares about doing engineering properly, and see your code reach customers fast, not stuck behind six months of process.

Some of our benefits (only applicable to UK based roles not Internship programmes)

  • Competitive salary &lots of opportunities to learn, grow and progress professionally.
  • Open and inclusive culture.
  • Hybrid working.
  • Fantastic offices and great working environment.
  • Vitality Health Plan (includes private health insurance, travel insurance, gym discounts)
  • Health cash Plan (Medicash health plan Level 3)
  • 6% employer pension contribution.
  • Life assurance – 4 x salary.
  • Income protection insurance – 75%
  • 28 days holiday plus 3 additional days, & further days for various key life events as well as the opportunity to sell up to 5 days per calendar year.
  • Swap public/bank holidays each year for alternative days that align with your personal, cultural, or religious observances.
  • Enhanced family friendly and family forming policies.
  • Access to a wide range of retail discounts.
  • Team Socials.
