The Role

As a Quality Control Technician, you will be responsible for inspecting, sampling, testing and analysing concrete, aggregates and associated materials to ensure compliance with Heidelberg Materials standards, EDF requirements and relevant British and European standards.

You will play a critical role in maintaining the highest levels of product quality, operational excellence and nuclear safety culture across the Sizewell C project.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

• Champion a strong health, safety and environmental culture at all times.

• Ensure compliance with Heidelberg Materials and EDF safety procedures.

• Identify and report Near Misses, hazards and quality concerns.

• Promote safe working practices and challenge unsafe behaviours.

• Maintain full compliance with Nuclear Safety Culture requirements.

Quality Assurance & Testing

• Conduct laboratory and field testing of concrete, aggregates and related materials.

• Perform aggregate sampling, slump testing, compressive strength testing and specimen preparation.

• Carry out testing in accordance with British Standards, European Standards and company procedures.

• Analyse concrete batch tickets to ensure compliance with approved mix designs.

• Investigate product quality issues and support corrective actions.

Material Inspection

• Inspect incoming raw materials including cement, aggregates, limestone and admixtures.

• Verify material deliveries against specifications and project requirements.

• Escalate any discrepancies to Production and Technical Management.

Documentation & Reporting

• Record and maintain accurate test results, calibration records and quality documentation.

• Produce detailed reports and technical data analysis.

• Support audits and demonstrate compliance with quality systems.

Project Support

• Liaise with EDF, contractors, operational teams and technical colleagues.

• Carry out site visits to collect samples and assess site conditions.

• Build strong working relationships with contractors and third-party stakeholders.

• Support transportation of test specimens between sites and laboratories.

What We're Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience

• Experience within concrete, aggregates, construction materials, laboratory testing or quality control.

• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

• Ability to accurately follow testing procedures and standards.

• Excellent record keeping and reporting skills.

• Good communication skills and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders.

• Commitment to health, safety and quality excellence.

• Full UK driving licence.

Advantageous Qualifications & Experience

• Concrete, aggregate or asphalt testing experience.

• Knowledge of British Standards and quality management systems.

• Traffic Marshal Training.

• Front Loading Shovel Operator Card.

• Experience working on major infrastructure, civil engineering or nuclear projects.

• Understanding of Nuclear Safety Culture principles.
