Job description

My client is looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to join our successful and expanding team. The company supplies new machine builds, modifications, refurbishments, and responds to breakdowns. We specialise in supplying the food industry but also supply other industries in meeting their engineering requirements. This role is a crucial part of the overall growth and business development both internally and with external customers.

The role is responsible for growing the business and taking it to the next level, driving site-wide improvements in sales, service, cost, quality and safety. It includes managing our multi-skilled engineering department and design team, generating new sales and growing the customer base, efficiently managing costs and overseeing health and safety compliance. The role will report directly into the Operations Director.

Responsibilities include:

·Overseeing the complete engineering process from enquiries, quotes, specifications, sourcing material, manufacturing, third party contracting, quality checks, delivery and after sales service.

·Managing projects from concept to completion working closely with customers to ensure times scales, costs, quality, safety and legislative standards are met.

·Provide advice and expertise in response to engineering and customer queries.

·Responsibility for the sales function of the business, building supplier and customer relationships to ensure continued partnership and improve cost efficiency.

·Drive continuous improvement of engineering quality, safety and legislative standards in line with ISO 9001: 2015 and other industry standards.

·Ensure Health and Safety on site for staff, contractors and visitors ensuring compliance with company standards and statutory regulations.

·Oversee the supplier approval process, agreeing contracts and managing third party contractors.

·Overseeing maintenance operations including plant machinery, building, equipment, vehicles and PPM cycles.

·Motivate staff, carry out appraisals and identify training needs ensuring the team is fully trained and competent.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Self motivated to grow and expand the business implementing new ideas.
  • Strong process and design engineering experience.
  • Professional engineering qualification, backed by proven engineering management experience.
  • Experience in generating sales and growing a customer base.
  • Strong mechanical engineering background with the ability to be ‘hands on’ when required.
  • Health and safety experience within the engineering industry.
  • Awareness of engineering legislative standards and keeping up to date with changes.
  • The ability to identify and evaluate potential risks in design and develop solutions with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proven experience of fostering positive relationships with staff, suppliers and customers, and driving and motivating a team.
  • Preferred, but not essential experience of FMCG.
