Job description

Job Description

·         Performs design and drafting of both electrical and mechanical aspects of electronic equipment.

·         Lays out printed circuit boards;

·         Designs wiring harnesses;

·         Performs layout drawing and checking of schematic diagrams as supplied in rough form by electrical engineering;

·         Makes wiring diagrams from schematic diagrams (vice-versa).

·         Performs overall chassis and housing design/drafting, including overall system packaging.

·         Designs front panels, chassis, brackets, card cages. Assists in selection of components such as connectors, terminals strips and switches.

·         Produces schematic diagrams and/or CAD drawings for submission to customers, plant, operations or outside vendors to produce the specified wiring harnesses, printed circuit cards, mechanical support to batteries, LRU and generating elements specified to assemble a complete electronic device.

·         Output must be able to be entered directly into data management configuration control.

Skills Required Supports the design process from beginning to end including:

·         Preparing documents for and supporting the manufacture of test hardware, and ensuring necessary technical data packages are released.

·         Develops practical, economical solutions to design problems of moderate complexity and project impact.

·         May control cost and schedule at work package level. Conducts studies with appropriate experimental procedures, equipment, and personnel.

·         Assures that designs meet specifications, standards, and performance requirements.

·         Interprets and applies relevant policies and procedures.

·         Follows engineering processes and best practices.

·         Is capable of directing the related efforts of drafters, designers and associate engineers in completing more complex designs.

·         Works as project coordinator enlisting the support of personnel from other functional groups.

·         Prepares material for and participates in peer reviews, consistent with engineering process guidelines.

·         Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies.

·         Shares responsibility of self-development with immediate supervisor.

 

Skills Preferred

·         Ability to create and understand mechanical and electrical drawings.

·         Ability to apply basic EE concepts and formulas at the box and harness level. Given a set of requirements, ability to release schematic diagrams, interconnect wiring diagrams, box designs, & assembly drawings.

·         Ability to use CAD schematic design / layout tools for complete simple designs.

·         Ability to independently design, test, integrate, and document simple assemblies.

·         Proficiency with basic PC tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

·         Familiarity with technical applications, such as FEA. Good planning, time management and organization skills. Good communication and interpersonal skills.

·         Ability to explain concepts to personnel unacquainted with the field of expertise.

·         Ability to develop effective working relationships with design personnel.

·         Good presentation and report writing skills.

·         Ability to work as part of a team.

 

Experience Required

A minimum of 4+ years experience; or relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus an additional 2 years experience.

4+ years experience in Pro-E/Creo, Pro-Cabling

Education Required

Associate Degree in a relevant technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
