Ready to strengthen risk governance across Capital Markets and Advisory in Europe?

Why HSBC

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.

The Role

As Director, Head of CMA Business Risk, Europe you’ll set the strategic direction for proactive management of non-financial and financial risks across Capital Markets and Advisory (CMA). This is a key role within the Global CMA Business Risk leadership team, partnering closely with senior stakeholders across CMA and Corporate and Institutional Banking in a highly regulated environment. You’ll take ownership of priority programmes of work ranging from uplifting controls and internal read-across to external trigger events and delivering regulatory change. Success means clear risk governance, proactive and timely escalation plus well-executed remediation that strengthens risk standards across the CMA product portfolio. You’ll also build capability across the team, raising knowledge, competency and skill while maintaining pace and quality under tight timelines.

What you'll be doing

  • Own and drive programmes of work for CMA Business Risk including material external trigger events, internal read-across and identified control issues
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for CMA management teams on existing and emerging conduct-related issues across CMA
  • Oversee non financial and financial risk management across the CMA product portfolio, ensuring proactive control and remediation plus identification of emerging risks.
  • Manage a robust risk governance framework, ensuring Risk Owners, Control Owners and stakeholders keep key risks within risk appetite
  • Assess risks and controls across the CMA enterprise, surfacing priority areas to senior leadership and risk stewards in a timely way
  • Secure business and wider CIB support to allocate resource and budget for key projects and remediation activity
  • Coordinate the CMA Risk Management governance meeting, ensuring quality and completeness of materials and actions
  • Design and embed an escalation framework for CMA, covering communication frequency, content and audience for material issues

What we're looking for

  • Bring significant knowledge of CMA product groups including Debt Capital Markets,  Structured Finance, Leverage Acquisition Finance, Structured Equity Finance and Corporate Risk Solutions.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of Corporate and Institutional Banking and an established understanding of investment banking risks
  • Show experience in frontline banking and/or risk management
  • Bring background in Risk Management, Regulatory Compliance, Legal and/or Regulatory Change within a banking context
  • Evidence delivery of complex projects across multiple jurisdictions using structured project management approaches
  • Demonstrate experience partnering with stakeholders across different business and cultural backgrounds
  • Show a track record of managing and developing high-performing teams, embedding continuous development and strong standards
  • Apply highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with proven engagement of senior management

Strengthening CMA risk outcomes

This role sits at the centre of how CMA in Europe identifies, prioritises and resolves the issues that matter most. You’ll shape how governance operates, how escalations land and how remediation is executed across a broad product portfolio. If you’re looking to take ownership of high-impact programmes and work closely with senior stakeholders across CMA and CIB this is an opportunity to make a clear difference. Apply to help strengthen how CMA manages risk across Europe.
