Job description

Bring your energy to Aggreko as Customs Specialist based in Glasgow.

You’ll be responsible for Customs compliance across Europe, ensuring full adherence to local customs regulations, international trade and tax laws while protecting the business from non‑compliance risk. You’ll partner with internal stakeholders and external authorities to optimise customs operations and deliver best practice across classification, valuation, country‑of‑origin (preferential and non‑preferential), special procedures, documentation and recordkeeping.

What you’ll do as Customs Specialist:

  • Monitor and ensure all shipments comply with EU customs regulations and international trade agreements, providing advice to the business on licenses, permits and certifications required for cross-border trade. 

  • Manage and support all aspects of indirect tax affairs including VAT and customs duties across the region, ensuring accurate payment and reporting.

  • Analyse customs tariffs, duties, and taxes applicable and ensure proper classification in accordance with the Trade tariff. 

  • Identify and mitigate customs compliance risks, maintain audit‑ready records, lead responses to local authority audits, and resolve shipment disputes quickly.

  • Serve as a liaison between Aggreko stakeholders and customs authorities, freight forwarders, and customs brokers, providing expert advice to internal teams on customs matters and import/export best practices.

You are:

  • An expert in Europe customs regulations with deep understanding customs special regimes, classification/tariffs, valuation and origin.

  • Highly experienced in customs, logistics, international trade, or a related field.

  • An effective communicator, with a proven ability to listen, comprehend, communicate clearly and concisely to obtain positive results.

  • Process focused with high attention to detail when handling documents and ensuring compliance with regulations.

  • Analytical able to review complex customs data and provide actionable insights, with strong audit and investigation skills.
