Job description

Customs Process Administrator

Location: Derby, UK

Keep global trade moving with Maersk

At Maersk, we're transforming global logistics by connecting the world through simplified supply chains. As a Customs Process Administrator, you'll play an essential role in ensuring goods move efficiently across borders while maintaining full compliance with UK customs regulations.

Working within a dedicated customs team supporting a key customer, you'll be responsible for preparing and processing customs declarations accurately and on time, helping to deliver an exceptional customer experience while ensuring compliance with HMRC and company standards.

What you'll be doing

  • Prepare and submit accurate customs declarations in line with HMRC regulations and internal procedures.

  • Review customs documentation to ensure completeness before submission.

  • Process CHED and IPAFFS declarations where applicable.

  • Calculate Duty, VAT and pass-through costs, identifying anomalies where appropriate.

  • Ensure customs activities are completed accurately and within agreed service levels.

  • Build strong working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.

  • Support customs clearance activities while maintaining compliance with customs legislation.

  • Act as a key contact for designated customer accounts, monitoring workloads and ensuring continuity of service.

  • Share knowledge and support colleagues across the customs team.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and customs-related projects.

  • Take ownership of your own learning and development while supporting team knowledge sharing.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone with previous customs experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced operational environment and has a keen eye for detail.

You'll ideally have:

  • Around 12 months or more experience in customs operations or customs administration.

  • Good understanding of customs declarations, customs documentation and customs legislation.

  • Experience using customs systems.

  • Experience with CHED declarations (desirable but not essential).

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Outlook, Excel and Word.

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • A collaborative approach with strong communication skills.

  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn new systems and processes.

While we'll provide full training on Maersk's internal systems, previous customs knowledge is the key requirement for success in this role.

What success looks like:

  • Delivering customs declarations accurately and on time.

  • Maintaining full compliance with HMRC legislation and customer requirements.

  • Meeting operational KPIs and service levels.

  • Building strong relationships with customers and colleagues.

  • Contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Ready to join us?

If you have customs experience, enjoy working in a collaborative environment, and take pride in delivering accurate, compliant work, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and become part of a team that's helping keep global trade moving.
