New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) / Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC)

Harvard Medical Faculty Group (HMFP) is hiring a code response and advanced airway nocturnist for the New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) campus.    NEBH is a specialty hospital in Boston with a focus on orthopedic, musculoskeletal, and complex surgical care.  The position is for a BC/BE physician with demonstrated expertise in advanced airway management and care of acutely ill patients to join a newly established Overnight Code Response & Airway Management Team. This is primarily an overnight clinical position providing in-house coverage on the NEBH campus, with opportunities for additional critical care daytime coverage. 

This physician will serve as the overnight Code Response leader for NEBH, providing advanced airway management, code leadership, and rapid response support for all patients on campus, including both NEBH and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center–licensed inpatient beds which are co-located on the NEBH campus. The role is fully clinical and is central to ensuring safe, timely, and consistent care for patients with increasing medical complexity in a predominantly orthopedic and surgical environment.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Serve as overnight Code Blue team leader for all inpatient units on the NEBH campus
  • Provide emergent and urgent airway management, including endotracheal intubation and advanced rescue techniques
  • Respond to Rapid Response Team activations and support bedside management of clinically deteriorating patients
  • Collaborate closely with overnight hospitalists, nursing, respiratory therapy, and other care team members.
  • Assist with stabilization and triage of critically ill patients, including facilitation of ICU transfer as needed
  • Support safe overnight clinical operations in a mixed medical and surgical patient population
  • Ensure compliance with ACLS and institutional protocols.
  • Participate in quality improvement and post-event reviews.

Practice Environment

  • In-house overnight coverage with 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Team-based model including a dedicated ICU Registered Nurse and Respiratory Therapist
  • No wRVU requirements or quota
  • Focused exclusively on acute response and airway management, without routine outpatient duties

Qualifications

  • Board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine, Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonary/Critical Care, or a related specialty
  • Proven competency in emergent airway management and management of acutely ill, hospitalized patients
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to function as a team leader during high-acuity events
  • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills

Pay Range:

$350,000 - $470,000

The base pay range reflects what Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (HMFP) reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this role at the time of posting and may be modified from time to time. Actual compensation within this range may be determined based on several factors, including academic appointment, work experience, specialty training, geography of work location, anticipated productivity, FTE basis, and role expectations. In addition to base compensation, this role may be eligible for performance-based incentives, which may include bonuses for productivity and quality HMFP also offers a comprehensive and generous employee benefits program to eligible employees, including health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, as well as retirement plan(s) with employer contributions.
