Job description

Brattle Australia
The Brattle Group, a privately held, global economic consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Associate to join our growing securities practice in Sydney. For over a decade, Brattle’s Sydney office has been at the forefront of delivering market-leading corporate finance and economic consulting capabilities across Australia. As we continue to grow, we are looking for talented individuals to join our high-performing team. Our Australia-based professionals work side by side with clients to tackle their most complex challenges, developing novel and rigorous approaches that make a real impact. From assessing economic and commercial damages to shaping innovative solutions and bringing global insights to local markets, we are committed to delivering exceptional analysis and client service—and to building a team where you can do your best work.

Our Work

The Securities group at Brattle in Sydney works on complex, high-stakes disputes involving shareholder claims, regulatory investigations, and expert evidence. Our work includes analysing alleged corporate misconduct and disclosures, assessing materiality and investor impact, building trading and damages models, and critically evaluating opposing expert analyses. The team combines financial economics, accounting, and data analysis to quantify losses and support litigation strategy in fast-moving, high-profile cases.

The Role

Associates work as part of a team on challenging and high-profile projects in a collegial and fast-paced work environment. Brattle is sought after to answer complex financial, economic, and regulatory questions for clients around the world. You will have an opportunity to support our Principals, Academic Advisors, and Outside Experts as they serve as expert witnesses before courts and arbitration panels on behalf of law firms, corporations, and government agencies.

We provide our Associates with a variety of experiences and individualised development with increasing responsibilities. Associates are central members of each project team, and they apply finance, accounting, and economic concepts to help resolve high-profile engagements, including litigation, corporate strategy regulation, and public policy on behalf of our clients.

Associates are responsible for framing research approaches, managing projects, and supervising teams while building individual expertise. As they gain valuable hands-on project experience, Associates also become more involved in developing client relationships and marketing and business development efforts. Brattle Associates also benefit from continuous formal and informal training and development opportunities.  Brattle is committed to being a multi-generational firm, with many of our Associates developing into Principals and testifying experts.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A PhD in Finance, Financial Economics, or Accounting or an MBA with an academic or professional background in Finance or Accounting
  • Excellent foundation in quantitative analysis, and/or several years of relevant work experience (preferably in economic consulting, public accounting, investment banking, or similar environment)
  • Proven project management skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated record of outstanding academic and/or professional accomplishment
  • Intellectual curiosity, including a drive to think creatively about complex finance, valuation, business strategy, and accounting issues
  • Excellent analytic and quantitative skills, along with practical problem-solving abilities (including proficiency in Excel; experience with statistical software such as Stata or R also helpful)
  • An aptitude for, and interest in, expressing complex ideas through written reports and presentations
  • An entrepreneurial drive to build their own business and brand while contributing to the firm
  • Desire to work, learn, and lead within a collaborative team environment

To be considered for the Associate position, please submit the following materials via our website:

  • CV/resume
  • Cover letter (describing your interest in economic consulting)
  • Writing Sample
  • Transcripts from all university academic programs
