The Mission of the Senior Accountant at Cozey

As Senior Accountant reporting to Laurent Dumouchel, Director of Finance & Accounting, your mission is to maintain accurate financial records, strengthen financial processes, and support Cozey's audit, tax, and general accounting operations as the business grows across Canada, the US, and Australia.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Month-End Close: Own the month-end close checklist, ensuring all deadlines are met and ledger entries are accurate, timely, and compliant with ASPE.
  • General Ledger & Balance Sheet: Own the general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations, including chart of accounts management, ensuring all accounts are accurate and fully supported.
  • Audit: Prepare documentation for audits and lead year-end and interim audits by being the main point of contact with external auditors.
  • Financial Analysis: Analyze monthly financial results and investigate any material variances, presenting findings to the Director of Finance and the CFO.
  • Expense Tracking & Budgeting: Help monitor expenses by improving practices around expense tracking and ensuring accuracy of budget-to-actual comparisons. Own departmental Profit and Loss.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and support the implementation of best practices.
  • Tax Compliance: Assist in tax filings, ensuring compliance with local and federal regulations across Canada, the US, and Australia. Take ownership of operationalizing transfer pricing and coordinating income tax filing with consultants.
  • AI-Enabled Process Improvement: Use AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT/Claude) to support financial analysis, documentation, and process improvement, applying good judgment around data accuracy and confidentiality.

We'd Love to Hear From You If You Have

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in accounting, preferably with exposure to both a large accounting firm and industry.
  • Proficiency with the office suite, especially Excel, and comfort using AI tools to support day-to-day analysis and documentation.
  • Knowledge of an accounting software or ERP, preferably NetSuite, is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ASPE and IFRS.
  • Knowledge of Canadian tax laws and regulations; exposure to US or Australian tax is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to simplify financial jargon and work cross-departmentally.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, with excellent communication and organizational skills.

We Care About You

  • You will receive a competitive salary along with a comprehensive benefits package.
  • Endless opportunities for personal and professional growth in a fast-growing start-up.
  • A generous PTO policy that allows you the time you need to recharge.
  • A role where your strategies and decisions directly influence the company's operations and growth.
  • A workspace where everyone is welcomed, heard, and valued.
